VIDA
I installed VIDA on my old laptop with WIN 10 and it works great.
Laptop was an ancient Dell Vostro 1520 from 2009 that I brought back to life with a cheap SSD & fresh Win 10 install.
I primarily only used this laptop on FORD vehicles with “FORSCAN” software.
I followed the advice and steps as per this post on “Mathews Volvo site” from the poster “Rick Hale Parker” at this link VIDA Win10
The only thing I did different was I did not install a IE11 extension into the Microsoft Edge web browser as Microsoft Edge already now has an IE 11 mode built in that you can toggle on before loading VIDA
To turn on IE mode in EDGE – go to “settings>default browser >allow sites to load in IE mode”
I also added a IE Mode “Toolbar button” in EDGE – go to settings>appearance > scroll down to “show buttons for toolbar” and select Internet Explorer mode.
DICE
For the DICE unit I read many reports of people buying the cheap Clone Versions from China that failed to work.
I decided to roll the DICE and take my chances. I bought the cheapest unit i could find on AliExpress which at least had some reviews from buyers saying the unit worked.
I bought this unit on AliExpress for $70 Australian at this link AliExpress Dice
Initially the unit would not work, and I was pissed off. I was going to smash it with a hammer & add it the ” Failed Cheap Chinese Things List” of things I bought.
I eventually solved the problem & got it working, but not without some frustration.
I was not sold a DICE unit as advertised
I was sold a VXDIAG unit inside a DICE box. Disguised as a DICE unit
After realizing I got scammed, I then selected “VXDIAG” from the drop-down connection tool menu In VIDA and it worked.
Initially I was selecting “DICE-J2534” for DICE in the drop-down connection tool menu in VIDA which failed to work.
Another small dilemma is that the VXDIAG unit (that was In a DICE BOX) only works for 3 months at time. You have to install “VX MANAGER” software and press the update license button every 3 months to renew license.
In Hindsight, I would have preferred getting a real cloned DICE unit & not scammed for a VXDIAG unit that needs its LIC renewed every 3 months to get it working.
I suspected it was VXDIAG unit & not a DICE unit after I went back to the AliExpress Web page where I bought it and saw in their FAQ that to test the DICE unit (to see if its working ok) you need “VX Manager” to read the serial number. As this unit was 1/2 the price of all the other DICE units on AliExpress & similarly priced to other VXDIAG units ( it now makes sense why it was cheaper).
All in all, the VXDIAG unit works well with VIDA but with the minor added inconvenience of needing to install “VX Manager” software & pressing the update LIC button every 3 months.
Would also like so say a few special words ” F*CK YOU ALIEXPRESS” for making me waste several hours trying to get this Unit to work where I reinstalled every known DICE Windows Driver variant that I could find, for a unit that wasn’t even a DICE.
