Ferrari has finally published images of its new supercar, the Ferrari Monza and it is positively breathtaking. The Italian manufacturer only allowed an exclusive, invitation-only audience to see the limited edition model after some images had been leaked online.
The Ferrari Monza’s bodywork has been based on 1950s racing car designs, and will be available with one or two seats. The super luxury car has no roof and will feel like an F1 car to drive.
The company said the car will be aimed at the brand’s “dedicated clients and collectors” and will hark back to former Ferrari racing models, including the 1948 166 MM and the 750 and 860 Monza. Making the Monza more exclusive – only 500 will be built and each one will cost in excess of £1million/ 1.13m€.
The Ferrari Monza will have the most powerful engine that the Maranello factory has ever made available for the road – an 810hp 6.5-litre V12, which is an upgraded version of the same engine used in the existing 812 Superfast.
It’s even more powerful than the 6.3-litre V12 engine in the LaFerrari hypercar, which produces 800hp. This means it will have some eye-watering acceleration, hitting 62mph/100kmh from standstill in just 2.9 seconds. Ferrari also claims the Monza will reach 124mph/199kmh in just 7.9 seconds.
As for the top speed, though unconfirmed, it is likely to exceed the 211mph/340kmh produced by the 812 Superfast.
This is mainly thanks to the Monza weighing in significantly lighter than the model it’s based on – in part because it has no roof at all. Ferrari also confirmed that all the bodywork is carbon fibre, while the chassis is said to be aluminium to make it as light as possible.
The Ferrari Monza – which shares its name with the famous Italian race track – will be the first new model launched since chief executive Sergio Marchionne passed away in July. He planned that the brand would increase its production volumes and grow the number of limited-run special models.
His successor, Louis Camilleri, is now looking to lead the project, which aims to double the company’s profit to 2billion Euros by 2022.
