Sorry to hear about that. This is a common problem on all XC90’s 2016 to 2018 or later.
Left and right sides will be as you set in the driver seat. For over here post, I am used to saying driver side/passenger side.
The red hose is LH side. The brown hose is RH side. By 2018, hose color could be the same or not.
The end of each drain hose has a rubber ell that goes thru the metal car body. Even if you do not open your SR, dust vibrates thru the SR seal and lays in the drain trays. All SR’s leak some water into the drain rails/trays. There is a drain hose on each of the 4 corners that direct dripped in water down and out the hose end exit. Drain water mixes with the accumulated dirt/dust, makes mud that gets caught in the rear drain rubber elbows. There is never enough drain water to force the mud debris out. Besides, the rear elbow drains have a rubber end like holding your 2 index fingers together that water is supposed to force open to drain out the drain water. The mud/debris will build up in the rubber elbow end(s) causing all of the SR drain water to back up and overflow from the SR tub onto the headliner and into the car. Remove both rear lower SR drain hose ends from the rubber elbow. Inspect the rubber elbows for mud/debris blockage. You can remove the rubber elbows and cut the ends off some to open up the exit hole. LR elbow is easier with the battery removed. Get ready to catch hose water or clean it up later. Once the elbows are open, connect drain hoses. Aim the front of the car uphill. Open SR and pour some water into the drain rail and see if it drains out behind the rear tires. On the close-up brown hose pic, the clip was half pinching the drain hose. I removed the hose from the clip. The last pic is from a 2003 XC90 front SR drain elbow. It would block up with SR mud and spill water on your head. The fix was to cut the end off. You would think that Volvo learned from the 2003 XC90 drain elbow backups. Back in 1985, we had to cut off the 240 series AC drain hose for the same thing. Water leaking panel pic, is from the LH side. What can you say to a customer that drives in and says, come out here and look at my rear panel leaking water into my car. I would not mess with the hoses that connects to the SR tub. If you twist off the plastic drain nipple, you got bigger problems now. The other cleaning info should fix your drain/blockage issue. The front drains are open hoses the exits under the windshield glass area.
