Deliveries of the Omoda C9 by Jaecoo have started. Up to 500 units of the D-segment SUV, launched in December, have made their way to Jaecoo dealerships nationwide, which means that we’ll start to see them on the road soon.

“It is extremely gratifying to see the market’s positive reception for the C9. It affirms our concerted effort and commitment to introduce best-in-class vehicles that suit the needs and preferences of drivers here. We’re ready to take our customers on the next phase of their ownership journey with Jaecoo with the support of our extensive network of exceptional dealers,” said Jaecoo Malaysia VP Emily Lek.

“In view of the dynamic automotive market outlook, Jaecoo is looking forward to steadily contributing to the healthy growth of the industry as a whole which ultimately benefits consumers,” she added.

To recap, the Omoda C9 is a big five-seat SUV that’s 53 mm longer and 60 mm wider than the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, which is seven-seater. Its 2,800 mm wheelbase is 90 mm longer than the Tiggo 8’s and boot space is a generous 660 litres, expandable to 1,783 litres with the rear seats folded.

Under that wide hood lies a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine producing 261 PS and 400 Nm of torque. Drive goes to the front (2WD), or all four wheels in the AWD version, via an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The AWD car gets four off-road modes in addition to the standard three, plus adaptive suspension. Those big wheels are 20-inch items with Michelin e-Primacy tyres.

The C9 2WD is priced at RM168,800 while the AWD is yours for RM188,800 on-the-road without insurance. The factory warranty is for seven years or 150,000 km. Specs and details in our launch report.

By the way, if you’re confused by the branding, here’s the deal. Both Omoda and Jaecoo are brands under Chery, and the more trendy/upmarket duo are meant to be sold under one roof, away from the more traditional namesake Chery brand.

Malaysia is an exception. Chery started its journey in our market with the Omoda 5 before Jaecoo was established here. Jaecoo is positioned as a premium SUV brand, and the Omoda C9 is the most premium product from the Chery Group so far in Malaysia, so it’s being sold by Jaecoo Malaysia and its dealerships alongside the J7. There’s no change on the car itself though, which still wears Omoda badging.
