Hello fellows

I recently inherited my older son’s XC70 as he moved to newer faster fancier less practical vehicle. While I know that XC relatively well as I oversight some repairs and even worked on in occasionally, I haven’t drove it for a while or ever though about upgrades for it. Now when it’s mine I can play with it a bit. It has about 130k on it.

First, questions on maintenance.

  • being life-long manual gearbox cars owner … What is the automatic gearbox service schedule or routine? Is this something DYI guy can accomplish on weekend without swearing much in the garage?
  • comparing to other cars we have XC’s brakes are kind’s of soft. The brake pedal has a very soft feeling , without feeling unsafe though. Is this common for these vehicles or something that has to be addressed? Pretty sure it has OEM brakes.
  • when I put shifter in a gear, the tranny engages and car vibrates a bit. More noticeable in reverse. Is it normal/ addressable?
  • I noticed that LED color is inconsistent through heating module and not matching to HU. Is this sign of previous repairs or works as expected?
  • Does your car sit level? I have a feeling that the rear of my XC is racked up? I might try to take a pic and post later.

On updates:

  • The car feels rolling side to side, well I’m coming from driving modded R.. Will IPD’s swaybars make a difference? I noticed substantial improvement when I did it on my Rwagon. I should mention that it’s running on high profile 16″, it cleatry doesn’t help to improve stability but I’m not going to change it as I’ve got 2 sets of all seasons, and winter steelies on it now.
  • Does anyone have TME’s ECU update (though iPD) on these vehicles? I enjoy it in my R and debating it I want to add it to XC as well.
  • I already asked in different post if newer mirrors would work. I was hoping turn signals would work without modifications but doesn’t look it would. If you did let me know how difficult it was. I might just go with P2 R mirrors, low profile but no. turn signals.

I’m sure I will have more question as I start driving it daily. Thanks!
