Ferrari EV reveal on October 9, will be “unique” in style, performance; 5 more models planned for 2025

It would have seemed sacrilegious only a few short years ago, but Ferrari is – shock, horror! – making an electric vehicle. That much had been known for some time, but the company has now revealed that the controversial new model will be revealed in the fourth quarter of the year, with CEO Benedetto Vigna throwing out a date of October 9 during the firm’s 2024 financial results presentation yesterday.

The date coincides with Ferrari’s Capital Markets Day, during which the company will also share more details on its future direction. In typical Prancing Horse tight-lipped fashion, Vigna did not provide any other details, only saying that the new model will set itself apart from other EVs through the usual Ferrari differentiators. “Our elettrica will be unique in the sense that we are looking at the different dimensions – the style, the performance and the driving thrills,” he said.

Information about the car has been kept tightly under wraps, but past spyshots and videos that have appeared on social media showed a prototype based on a chopped-up Maserati Levante, indicating that the EV will be a low-slung SUV in the vein of the Purosangue rather than an out-and-out sports car. The mule wore fake quad exhausts and reportedly produced a synthesised engine note, but high-voltage warning stickers meant that it wasn’t fooling anyone.

A Reuters report previously stated that the car was set to cost at least €500,000 (RM2.3 million), but Vigna later dismissed it as a “surprise” and did not confirm or deny prices. He added that the company usually defines pricing about a month before launch, per Eletrek.

The EV is just one of six new models Ferrari plans to launch this year, including profitable low-volume specials that will take the place of the SP3 Daytona. Production of the mid-engined V12 supercar, part of the brand’s ultra-exclusive Icona series, is set to end in the third quarter of the year.
