Don’t Make These 3 Mistakes with Your Thermostat in Webster, TX

Posted on September 26, 2024 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Don’t Make These 3 Mistakes with Your Thermostat in Webster, TX

Misusing your thermostat inflates your energy bill, reduces your indoor comfort and can cause HVAC breakdowns. Unfortunately, most homeowners in Webster, TX are not even aware of the mistakes they make, so they repeat them. Here, we discuss some common thermostat mistakes.

1. Cranking Up the Thermostat

A person who isn’t sure about how HVAC systems work may set the thermostat too high, thinking that it will make the HVAC system warm the house more quickly in winter. However, cranking up the thermostat doesn’t influence how quickly the HVAC system warms your home.

Instead, this practice makes the system overwork, thus consuming more energy and perhaps breaking down due to accelerated wear and tear. It’s best to use normal temperature settings to prevent the system from overworking.

2. Using the Wrong Settings

If you forget to shift your thermostat from “Cool” to “Heat”, or if someone inadvertently changes it, it can’t prompt the HVAC system to warm your home. Also, it’s essential to understand when to use various fan settings.

The “Auto” setting keeps the fan running only when the system is running a temperature regulation cycle. The fan shuts down after distributing the heated air. This is the recommended setting.

The ”ON” setting keeps the fan running at all times. This setting helps to distribute the heated air evenly in your house, especially if there are cold and hot spots. However, if the fan continues to run for a long time, it starts distributing cold air since the system has already completed a heating cycle.

3. Attempting DIY Repairs

If you’re not an HVAC professional, repairing your thermostat by yourself can cause extensive damage to both the thermostat and the HVAC system. Always leave HVAC repairs and maintenance to professionals.
