This is a guest post by Karin Roest, a Celebrity Talent Scout and Buddhist Nun turned Thought Leadership Strategist and Business Coach.
Not too long ago, I had a job that involved me jetsetting around the world and partying with some of the biggest celebrities on the planet. As a celebrity talent scout and producer based in Hollywood, I was privy to the truth behind fame, and it’s not what you’d think.
It doesn’t always depend on talent, or even who you know; and it’s not just for the beautiful people in Hollywood or the hottest rock stars. Being famous starts from an inner desire to reach your fullest potential.
The lifestyle got a little hectic, as epic globetrotting and attending A-list parties tends to get, and eventually I moved into business for myself: Living life on my own terms and calling the shots. As a result, I’ve lived my dream of calling more than 40 countries home for 18 years, working along the way.
There’s no big, brilliant secret into successfully designing your own life. But in my case, it certainly helped to have learned from the celebrities who I worked with.
By watching them, by talking with them, I began to see how simple it can be to become famous. But not just any kind of famous, PURPOSELY FAMOUS.
What does it really mean to be Purposely Famous?
Coaches, mentors, and gurus may call it, “Having more visibility”, “making an impact”, “increasing your influence.” But, in the end, being famous is the same thing.
Everyone is born with a purpose that can change the world, but not enough people use it for good. We need people with a vision of fame for a good purpose that lets them step up to reach their highest potential and use it for the greater good.
There are two kinds of fame. The 1st kind of fame: Empty fame is superficial, materialistic, and ruins reputations and good intentions. The 2nd kind of fame: Purposeful fame is meaningful, has integrity, and brings more value and goodwill to the world.
So if you…
- Have an idea that would challenge the status quo…
- Have wisdom, skills, or passions that you know would bring others joy, but don’t know how to share them…
- Aren’t sure exactly which path to follow, what resources to use, or aren’t sure which guru to believe….
- Truly believe that you have something valuable to bring to the world but have no idea how…
But, you feel that if you just knew what to do and had a proven path to follow, one that celebrities and the most influential people in the world already took, then you could reach a wider audience … then keep on reading, because this is EXACTLY for you.
We need more authentic people to become “widely known.”
Why the success of your business depends on your level of achieving Purposeful Fame
What if the meaning of life is seriously just to enjoy it? What if we are simply working too hard at obtaining things or keeping up with the your neighbors and colleagues?
I assure you that living an amazing life is attainable and possible. And showing others how to do just that is the noblest cause to get paid for.
Running a business based on your Thought Leadership has MANY tactical and practical benefits, like:
- Reaching your highest potential and helping others do the same
- Low startup costs
- Low overhead and operating costs
- No inventory
- Low outsourcing costs
- Full automation: Complete control, free time, and passive income
- Low risk
- High profit potential
- Unlimited growth potential
- Builds your authority and credibility
And these 5 steps will help you build your business around it:
- Get clear on your messaging: For You (your original thoughts), your Tribe (small group of people who want results fast), and the Masses (large group of people who want transformation) – You need these 3 different parts, no less!
- Package your wisdom: Create profitable products and services (books, speeches, online courses, etc.)
- Create your own authority: Use a proven, scientific system to establish credibility
- Spread the word (Level 1): Build a core client base organically then automate your business to get a steady stream of clients (Sales funnels, webinars, etc.)
- Spread the word (Level 2): Exposure & Influence with the mainstream media, publicity, sponsors, projects with investors, and Hollywood
Learning the step-by-step path to fame allows you to help more people and make more money with integrity
Fame is not only for celebrities, anyone can achieve it with the right guidance and insider secrets. I’ve developed the following steps to help you get started:
1. Knowing that you are more powerful than you think
If I tell you you’re good enough, you are. This is not only my opinion, but based on the hundreds of people I’ve helped get to the stage.
I promise that you are just as good as any A-list celebrity, Ted Talk speaker, Grammy award winning artist that I have represented. But you just may not have had the same strategic feedback as they have. You can do it.
And you can handle more than you think along the way. When opportunities come, you don’t turn them away.
I mean, do you think that:
– Richard Branson, a billionaire who controls 400+ companies, said to himself years ago “I’m going to wait until this ONE company is successful, then I’ll open another?”
– Or that the Madonna said, “We’re going to wait until this ONE song is a hit, then record another song?”
– Or Elon Musk said, “Let’s perfect our ability to live on the moon before we figure out how to live on Mars?”
No they did not.
If you stay at your current pace of just doing one thing at a time, you may be too old when you have your big breakthrough. And that’s what we want, your big breakthrough: The point where people know your name, they come to you, you’re clear on what you want to do and things happen.
But until then, you have to look at all these different experiences that you have as a journey to build your character.
2. Connect with people through your Authenticity and Thought Leadership
No matter where you are at right now in your journey, you can gain the respect from people who have more authority than you. As I gained more confidence in myself, the script has flipped.
What changed? As I became more confident in my purpose and clear on that and a more authentic person, that is what they sensed about me.
You still have to know how to deliver and do a good job, but to get the “in” compared to everyone else – you must exude confidence from within. And that confidence must be authentic.
3. Follow the Thought Leader’s Income Ladder to get paid your full worth
If we all supposedly want money, fame and anything else we desire at our fingertips, why are there so many unhappy celebrities and “successful” people? Being a celebrity, and being wealthy, has its limit of fulfillment.
There is not a shortage of money in the world, there is only a shortage of people who know how to go get it. There’s no reason why you can’t be someone who increases their income by thousands of dollars per month.
We have to learn how to raise your own standard. It’s not money in the end that makes you fulfilled, but it is an act in the game that gives you resources to more money and resources. You need to take into serious consideration how you will make money.
4. Use the Beyond Their Words Formula to systematically build a Tribe (no more guessing!)
It can be frustrating to know you have a message that can transform the lives of others, but haven’t been able to reach a large audience or make a living off of your expertise. You may look at all the people that have a large following and ask yourself “What are they doing different that I should be doing too?”
Now let me tell you, the most successful companies in the world don’t build their loyal customer bases guessing around. They use existing and proven techniques to build their following and make millions and billions of dollars in the process.
One of the most important techniques is called the “Beyond Their Words Formula,” and it entails the following steps:
Step 1. Use your original thoughts and solutions to help other people. With time and practice, you’ll gain the skills to intuitively decipher what they need and want but aren’t saying and add that to your marketing materials.
Step 2: Pick 1 Tribe (aka, your niche and yes you have more than one) to focus on. Hone in on their problems and dreams. Collect the EXACT words that THEY use to describe them.
Step 3. Integrate the words and phrases from your tribe that you collected in Step 3 to your marketing materials. When they hear those marketing materials, they’ll think, “Wow, you really get me!” You do get them, because you asked, and more importantly, you listened and understood what they need…and merely repeated their own words back to them.
5. Strategically plan ahead to Make Mainstream Media & Hollywood Come To You (no more chasing!)
The goal of this strategy is to reach a breaking point where you become so popular and well known that the opportunities come to you automatically without trying. You should chase dreams, not people.
But even before you reach that breaking point, while you’re attracting your initial followers, make sure that you are not chasing. You’ll need a strategy to create your breaking point, but still never, ever chase.
I am not telling you that you should sit back and do nothing and wait for it to happen… That won’t work either.
Instead, I’m saying that it can ONLY happen if you are absolutely strategic. Only when you are, THEN Hollywood, the media, and A-Listers will come to you.
I know from my own experience of working with the most influential people in the world, that these are people that want to be in on the action and know the latest amazing person, too.
When I worked at a speakers bureau where we paid ordinary people with extraordinary visions 6-figures+ for one 40x minute speech, we were ALWAYS scouting for new people, just like you, to inspire audiences around the world.
If you do it right – and with the best of intentions – becoming purposely famous is about taking charge to reach your fullest potential and live life on your own terms.
I know what you might be thinking:
- “This is too good to be true!”
- “I don’t even know what to do yet or how, becoming famous is the last thing on my mind!”
- “I just need to finish making enough money from this current project/revenue stream/or focus in my business”
But these are all limiting beliefs.
Everyone started out unknown and had to earn their keep – yep, even people like Oprah, Steve Jobs, and Bill Gates…
You can double your progress by at least learning about all of your options and create a master plan now, then you’ll make better educated decisions that accelerate your progress in the future.
It is a process and lifelong journey with calculated steps to leverage the best of who you are and what you do into a profitable business.
Can you imagine what the world would be like without movers and shakers like them?
But the bigger question you should be asking yourself is: Can WE imagine what the world would be like without a mover and shaker like YOU?
I think you know the answer to that.
Now that it’s clear that the world needs you to be famous…what are your biggest fears when you hear the word “FAMOUS,” even if it’s for a purposeful reason? What prevents you from feeling like this will be burden and not liberating? Do you feel worthy, do you have enough clarity and confidence to make it happen?
