Hi smart car friends, Sorry if this is long I don’t know what is related to what so I’m going to spell it all out. My 2010 XC70 AWD is pushing 350Km. I hit a tall but narrow speed bump back in May which immediately disabled my AWD. I have never seen this message before AWD disabled, service required. SO we took it in, they changed ( I forget what but a pump I think?) and that worked for 5 minutes and we went through an exercise of bringing it in, them troubleshooting, trying things, spent a few k nothing worked. They changed the wiring harness. It always went pretty straight away right back to “AWD not working” and that message would pop up on the dash. The car also, and this is where I’m not sure if its related, started doing weird things – rough idle (sometimes (often) stalling), trouble accelerating, and feels like its slipping at gear change or chugging. Its really frustrating. I kept bringing it in for both issues and the mechanic couldn’t figure it out. Changed sparkplugs, changed camshaft (or maybe it was crankshaft?) sensor… ( we were getting trouble codes for both). All 6 cylinders misifiring….That got expensive, so I’m trying to figure it out myself now. It had trouble starting a few times when it was real cold, so I tried changing the battery even though it was only 2.5 years old ( I live in cold climate so maybe it just is normal – (i have gone through quite a few batteries with this car). That was great and seemed to fix everything for about 600km then it all started again the other day, and this is what was happening that day — lots of snow, so I turned the car on to idle and warm up while i got the snow off. As soon as I turned on the cabin air the car stalled. Was it moisture from teh snow on the windshield near the air intake? Or a votage drop that the battery is already bad? or what… aaaa what is going on the only other thing I can think of is – is old car gas tank sludge a concern with these cars? I was running on fumes that day…essentially was empty but ever seince that day, the car has been as bad as it was before I changed the battery, which is a shame since I thought the battery fixed it. The other thing that happened that day, and the car seems to especially hate it, is when I lose traction when the AWD is disabled like it is. Does anyone think that when it tries to deal with the traction control, when the front tires are slipping but it ant engage the AWD at the back because the awd is disabled, that that is somehow causing the ECM to be confused somehow, and causing my other symptoms? Because that day when this all started up again, I was nose down on my slanted driveway and it laboured to back up with the snow on the driveway and the front wheels were trying to push the car backward and slipping and the car did NOT like that. Or is this all coincidental and unrelated. I am at my wits end and can’t really justify spending anymore thousands of dollars at the mechanic for a car that has 350Km on it. BUt at the same time, i love my car so I really want to figure this out. the only other thing that might be relevant is that the air conditionaing also isnt cooling ( in the summer obviously) but maybe that is a clue? Can anyone tell me why they think the car is stalling/chugging/rough idling and also how to fix the AWD? Again, it originally stopped working after a big bump. Thank you for reading my long post
