New here but happy to be here!
I’ve researched on here and other types of communities (here, Reddit, and Spaycetech forum) but wanted to ask my question as I’m not finding the answers I really want – the answers relate to either a T8 or T6, my Volvo is a T5. Let me give some background info –
I just bought my first ever car on my own. I bought a 2020 XC60 T5 Inscription. I love it – it was a good deal with 50k mileage and no accidents. I got extended warranty through my car loan provider (extended warranty is Route 66), so the extended warranty isn’t through Volvo. Reason I’m advising the warranty will go with my question below.
The SUV pretty much has everything on it – the only things it does not have is adaptive cruise control, pilot assist, 360 camera, and heads up display.
The only thing is I was REALLY wanting on my next car is adaptive cruise control. I didn’t realize it until I went down and bought it, but I was ready for a new car (was driving a 2006 Toyota), and the xc60 had everything else I wanted (plus, a damn good price for the inscription trim level located near me – I don’t think I could find this price for the same model year/trim level if I had waited). Luckily, I haven’t had ACC before, so I don’t know what it’s like, but I do want it added. I plan to keep this car after it’s paid off, hence why I’m wanting this added on (otherwise, I wouldn’t get it added on if I was going to get a newer xc60 inscription in 5-6 years).
So the option is either add Intelli Assist from Volvo accessories at local dealership (get the new hydraulic unit + software) to get ACC + Pilot Assist or use Orbit software. While I wouldn’t mind getting pilot assist or any of the other features in the Intelli Assist package, I just really want ACC, which is why I’m considering getting Orbit software.
So my questions are as follows:
1. Has anyone recently gotten the Intelli Assist retrofit from Volvo?
– If so, how much did it cost you in USD?
– Could I potentially get the hydraulic unit replaced at a non-dealership place (there is a non-affiliated Volvo place in town that has been around for 15+ years and only specializes in Volvos – has 5 star ratings and lower costs than dealership) and then go to the Volvo dealership to get the software update? Or would it need to be done all at one place? (The latter is my assumption, but I thought I’d ask).
2. Has anyone bought the Orbit Software?
– If you buy the software, hook your laptop to your car and only add on ACC, it won’t mess up any of the other things the car already has, correct? For example, do I need to select ACC as well as collision assist/mitigation, lane keeping assist, BLIS, apple car play, etc. if it’s already on the car? Or will selecting ACC just add ACC to the car and keep everything already on the car?
– Since my warranty isn’t with Volvo, I would still need to clear this/revert back to OEM every time I take the car in for scheduled maintenance, correct? When it’s time for maintenance, I will be taking it to the non-affiliated Volvo place and not the dealership.
– Is the hydraulic unit swap necessary for just ACC? Meaning, do I still need to swap the unit for me to use Orbit software to add ACC on my T5 inscription? Or can ACC be added with the unit my car currently has?
I may have other questions but that’s all I can think of right now. Any help I appreciate!
