Wish I Could Show You A Picture – Disaffected Musings

Wish I Could Show You A Picture – Disaffected Musings

Posted on December 14, 2024 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Wish I Could Show You A Picture – Disaffected Musings

We are near the full moon, which will be at peak illumination at 4:02 AM EST on December 15. We live in a neighborhood with no street lights and the effect of the moon is amplified. When I got out of bed “for good” at 4:15 AM this morning the backyard was illuminated as if lights were on.

However, not enough light exists for me to get a good photo with my iPhone. Whether or not a newer model would take a better picture, I don’t know. Here is a picture taken earlier this year in daylight.

I can see the moon this morning from our house, but–again–cannot take a usable photo. As I wrote here, Sometimes Human Eye/Brain > Camera.

Kemi Badenoch is the new leader of the British Conservative Party. After the party’s drubbing in the most recent elections in the UK, she succeeded former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. I wish I had thought of something she said during an interview with Bari Weiss, founder of The Free Press. Badenoch said, “One of the reasons why I don’t like the term woke is because I think it disguises just how bad this stuff is. This is civilization-ending philosophy where really bad ideas are being smuggled in under the guise of civil rights.” [emphasis mine]

Badenoch was born in the UK, but raised primarily in Nigeria. She returned to the UK at age 16. Here is her official photo:

Woke, or whatever you want to call it, is a cult–a dangerous cult–detached from reality. That’s my view and you cannot convince me otherwise.

This piece is titled, “Desperate Assad deceived those around him in last hours before stealthy flight from Syria.” The sub-head reads in part, “Ousted Syrian president kept officials and relatives, including his own brother, in the dark about his exit.” Yes, one can often see the true character of people, or total lack thereof, in moments of crisis.

Wish I had some automotive content to share. Although I haven’t changed my view on the subject, I am tired of writing about the folly of the push to EVs by blind ideologues and suspect readers are tired of reading about it as well.

I also “promised” not to write about the search for an F-Type companion until/unless I actually buy one. Digging up a “This Day In Automotive History” seems forced, inorganic unless it’s a momentous anniversary.

I guess I can share this Road and Track review from earlier this year of the Nismo version of the “new” Nissan Z. The piece title is, “Everybody Underestimates the Nissan Z Nismo.”

Of course, with that title comes a contrary viewpoint. Automotive journalist and driver Jethro Bovingdon said, “I’ve never driven the standard Z and having read some pretty negative reviews had very low expectations of the NISMO. Surely a 20bhp bump and a few suspension tweaks couldn’t be transformative? Well, it seems that maybe they are.”

I drove one in standard spec and wasn’t blown away by the car although it wasn’t bad. It’s not bad looking, either.

The picture is from the linked Road and Track piece. The Supra was more impressive to drive, in my opinion. Like Todd Deeken and Paul Schmucker of Everyday Driver often say, you can’t drive a spec sheet.

I can write that it is unlikely we will have a carport built. Such a structure will be money we don’t need to spend–a good car cover is 1/40th the cost of the carport–and hassles we don’t need as in dealing with the “Architectural Review Committee” of our HOA. Resurrecting an often written line from the early days of this blog, I have dreams but I live in the real world.

Of course, WordPress has still not fixed any of the issues plaguing this blog. I will, once again, provide “Pelated Rosts” that I hope you will read.
