There is a method to switch which driver has the option but it involves uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
When you first launch the app it will prompt you to allow it to use your location but you can only select “allow only while using the app”. Then the app will tell you go to the privacy location settings and select “allow all the time”. The first driver profile (driver profile S in my pictures) will be able to do this and all will work fine at first.
Then when the other driver gets into the car (driver profile A in my picture) and the driving profile changes the other driver will launch the Driving Journal app and try to do the same thing except when they go to the location permissions for the app it will not have the option for “allow all the time”. See pictures below.
The way to get the “allow all the time” to appear is you have to:
- open the Play Store
- search for journal in the store and select the app
- click “uninstall” this will uninstall the update and remove it from your list of apps.
- click “install”
- once its finished installing you can launch it and turn on all the location settings including “allow all the time”
However, after you do this when you switch driver profiles back to the first driver, the driving journal app will prompt you to allow location and this time it wont have the option to “all all the time” for the Volvo Journal app. You have just changed which driver has the problem now.
You can flip it back to this driver by following the steps above however only 1 of the multiple drivers can allow all the time. This app seems to be more of a system wide app because if you remove it from one driver profile it removes it from all drivers and vise versa if you install it.
The problem this causes is that all the driving logs show “location missing” after changing the driver profile. So logs are being recorded just with no location information.
I really wish Volvo had a method to report bugs and some way to gather software logs from the car to send them. I’m guessing this is some kind of app permission thing in this version of the app that needs to allow it across multiple profiles.
One strange thing I noticed is that the play store within the car it shows last updated Feb. 25th 2025 but when I view the app on the play store on my computer it shows last updated March 3rd 2025
