The Volkswagen ID.Buzz was crowned the Best Family Electric Vehicle under $100K for its excellent combination of space, comfort, integration of technology and driving range.
The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is a new addition for the brand, first going on sale in Australia in late 2024.
Although it plays in two relatively low-volume segments, there have already been 18 people-mover versions (and 57 vans) sold so far this year as it moves in on the territory held by class leaders such as Volkswagen’s own Multivan (57 sold year-to-date), Mercedes-Benz V-Class (79 sales), Lexus LM (93 sales) and the newcomer Zeekr 009 (32 sales).

How much is the Volkswagen ID.Buzz?
There are currently three variants of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz – all of which are fully electric – with a fourth still to come.
The range starts at $79,990 for the Volkswagen ID.Buzz three-seat short-wheelbase Cargo van, which is powered by a 210kW/550Nm rear electric motor and 77kWh battery.
At the top of the line-up, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz seven-seat long-wheelbase GTX has a price tag of $109,990. All prices exclude on-road costs.
All variants were eligible for this category’s price cap, except for the GTX.
The entry-level Volkswagen ID.Buzz comes with features such as power-latching sliding doors, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a leatherette-wrapped heated steering wheel, to name a few.
The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is supported by Volkswagen’s five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, with the battery additionally covered for eight years or 100,000km – whichever comes first.

What colours is it available in?
There are 10 colours available for the Pro variants of the electric people-mover.
Candy White is the only standard cost-free colour choice, with four metallic options – Bay Leaf Green, Mono Silver, Pomelo Yellow, and Starlight Blue – all available for an added $1890.
A pearlescent Deep Black can also be had for an extra $1890, or four two-tone metallic paints – Candy White/Bay Leaf Green, Candy White/Medium Blue, Candy White/Pomelo Yellow and Starlight Blue – each for $4090.
For the Cargo van, Candy White is standard, with a solid Cherry Red paint an extra $1590.
The metallic and pearlescent colour choices are the same as for the people-mover, although two-tone options are not available for the van.
For the interior, the standard trim is Palladium-Soul, with X-Blue-Mistral, Mistral-Green and Light Mistral-Soul in Seaqual trim all an extra $3790. An ArtVelours Mistral-Mistral trim can also be had for an added $4290.
Which variant do we recommend?
The Drive judges recommend the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Pro SWB, which starts at $87,990 plus on-roads.
This model combines a 210kW/560Nm rear electric motor and 77kWh battery driving the rear wheels through a single-speed transmission.
With plenty of change in your pocket, we recommend adding a few options, including White/Medium Blue two-tone paint ($4090), the Mistral-Soul interior ($4290) and a head-up display with Harman Kardon sound system ($2200).
That brings the total to $98,570 before on-roads.
What is the best deal on a Volkswagen ID.Buzz?
There are currently 180 Volkswagen dealers across Australia.
