[VIDEO] WD Detailing Cleans this 1970 Corvette That Hasn’t Been Washed in 40 Years

Cleaning up neglected, nasty Corvettes isn’t rocket science. Even novices to the car world can learn how to do it.

But the end result is always an emotional experience for the detailer – and his client. Just ask Kathy, whose brother Eric bought this Donnybrooke Green Corvette brand new back in 1970.

It was his first real car purchase, she says, and she remembers him proudly taking her and other family and friends on rides with the top down back in the day.

Sadly, though, Eric passed away earlier this year in January, and she’s decided to have the guys at WDD clean up the car and then take it to a mechanic to get it running again before passing it on to another steward.

For unknown reasons, Eric didn’t drive the car very much, and Kathy believes it sat forlorn in the garage since perhaps as long ago as 1985, collecting layer upon layer of dust and grime over the ensuing decades.

WDD shares its work through its YouTube channel that has grown to include 1.36 million subscribers, but today’s episode manages to feature a new twist with Braden, the young Gen Z’er on the staff who edits the videos for WDD. He isn’t much of a car expert, but Mike and his crew decide it’s time for him to learn the ins and outs of the business.

At first, it’s pretty obvious that Braden is a bit of a novice in the automotive world, as he has a little bit of trouble talking about the “clinch” used to shift the four-speed manual transmission in this vintage chrome-bumper Stingray and later he struggles a bit to find the right half-inch socket to remove the bucket seats.

Four days later, however, after all the work has been completed, Braden has made his own share of contributions to the detailing of the car and seems much more at ease around the shop. While he’s not ready to give up his editing job and become a full-time detailer, he’s pleased with the knowledge he was able to pick up in a short time and says he plans to use it taking care of his own late-model Chevy Cruze.

If you don’t want to watch the whole 42-minute video, at least fast-forward to the end to see Kathy’s emotional reaction to the unveiling of the car at a classic dealership in Ohio.

“I can’t say enough about what beautiful work you’ve done and how it really affects me, how it moves me to see this car look so great,” she says, asking at one point if they have a magic wand in their tool chest.
