Happy ZR1 Embargo Day to all! We’ve had today circled on our calendars so that we could finally read first tests. It was incredible waking up to the usual smattering of single-car reviews – Ezra Dyer’s was particularly good – but Jason Cammisa had an extra special, multi-generational, 35-minute surprise waiting for us by way of Hagerty. Through their collaborative effort Icons, we were just treated to the most comprehensive, beautifully shot video imaginable! It was better than Christmas, and we are going to send it along to “the Academy” because we’ve never seen something so completely deserving of an Oscar.
You should probably just mash the ‘play’ button below, but if you’re being polite and humoring your favorite Corvette Bloggers, here’s all that’s in store when you do reach the video link. Not only is it a full on-track review of the 2025 C8 Corvette ZR1 with hot shoe Randy Pobst along for the ride, which would already be the highlight of the young summer, it is a historical dive on the ZR1 (and ZR-1) badge along with a deep dive on how each model fit into, trounced, and shaped the supercar market at large. Again, just getting to see the greatest C4 – which, in Hagerty parlance, certainly appears to be in #1 Concours Condition, gleaming resplendently in Black Rose Metallic with chrome “Saw Blades” – in action was an unexpected delight, but Jason ups the ante by demonstrating how it easily smacked down the contemporary Ferrari 348 in a straight line and in the corners.

An Arctic White C6 ZR1 with the stunning black accents of the PDK High Performance Package and a C7 ZTK in the same shade also make appearances. The original purpose of the C6, and especially the C7, primarily serves to highlight how bonkers the C8’s launch is, but they mostly end up making us deeply nostalgic for the cross-plane days (the LS9 and LT5 honestly made the hairs on your author’s neck and arms stand at attention), a sentiment ultimately shared by our host.
Through comparison with Ferrari’s latest SF90 hybrid and 296 GTB screamer along with Lamborghini’s 1,001 horsepower Revuelto (yes, there’s a drag race, yes, it’s as awesome as it sounds!), Jason ends up hailing the unearthly speed available today and the surprising friendliness of the new ZR1 but bemoaning the convergent nature of today’s supercars, saying a lot of each marquee’s original personality and allure has been lost in the pursuit of performance. That being the case, though, it sounds like, with the emergence of the perfected C8 ZR1, there’s less reason to buy an exotic European than ever before!
