Unidentified Rattle on Brand New ’24 V90 | SwedeSpeed

Hello all,

My 2024 V90 CC B6 Ultimate with just 1.8K on the odo has some sort of unidentifiable but extremely-irritating rattle that the dealership is having trouble diagnosing and I thought I’d reach out to the hive mind to see if anyone has had a similar issue.

The rattle does not occur over any bumps and vehicle has never been subject to any potholes or circumstances that would cause something like this (unless it was on its voyage to the dealer from our OSD trip). It occurs only when the vehicle has warmed up and under normal braking, specifically during the last second just before the vehicle comes to a full stop. It is fairly easy to replicate once the vehicle is up to operating temperature and the best I could describe it is a rattle like rapid tapping on something metal or wood. Because it is a wagon, I couldn’t tell you exactly where the sound is coming from as it seems to echo throughout the cabin. My gut tells me somewhere behind the dash, but my better half thinks it may be the front left; the tech I drove along with thought it was coming from the transmission tunnel area.

The car has been at the dealer for over a week now. The dealer has escalated the issue to Volvo technical support which has gotten involved to help them diagnose the issue. I have gotten an update recently that they have been trying to rule out different components one by one. Most recently they removed the firewall and drove around but issue still persisted. Next up, they were going to inspect the brake lines/components but I don’t have an update with regards to how that went.

Unfortunately I do not have a sound clip as I simply went to the dealer due to how easy the sound was to replicate. I am beginning to worry that this car was built on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend, as some other quality control issues have surfaced like headliner that was coming loose (fixed under warranty) and the center console has a section of wood grain pore that isn’t the most attractive or smooth (that is subjective, but little things like that are noticeable to me and stand out in a luxury vehicle). I have also heard the front right wheel exhibit some rubbing on a couple of occasions (usually going 10-15MPH when turning left and going up a small incline or when going around a roundabout and hitting a small bump in the road – nothing extreme). The rubbing issue is difficult to replicate but does surprise me as the car is a CC, has the standard 20″ rims and given that 21″ rims are an option I would think there’s ample clearance especially on a lifted wagon. But that’s small potatoes compared to a rattle that won’t go away less than 2,000 miles into ownership.

Any thoughts that I could pass along to the dealership or if someone had something similar occur on their vehicle I would
love to hear your input. Thank you!
