The automotive world turned its attention to the Detroit Auto Show’s AutoMobili-D event this year, where University of Michigan students took center stage. Participants from the Perot Jain TechLab (PJTL) at Mcity and the Perot Jain TechLab Electrification programs wowed industry professionals, startups, and the public with their groundbreaking projects and entrepreneurial drive.
Known for providing immersive, hands-on experiences in mobility technology, the PJTL programs were well-represented by students showcasing a diverse range of projects. These budding innovators engaged with industry experts and potential collaborators, eager to explore the next big ideas in transportation.
This year’s showcase featured a special collaboration with NiFT, an engineering services company partnering with U-M for this year’s cohort. NiFT brought along its Q shuttle, a cutting-edge development platform that allows students to experiment with mobility solutions. This partnership highlights how industry connections enhance hands-on learning—an essential component of U-M’s innovative education.
Among the standout participants was Kanishka Gabel, a recent graduate and key member of the Capoom student team. Not only did he present his team’s work, but he also contributed to the University Research Corridor’s Future of Work panel, offering insights into how entrepreneurial education is shaping the workforce of tomorrow.
“I am extremely proud of the work that these students are contributing to the mobility and electrification ecosystem and glad that they were invited to participate in AutoMobili-D to share with the public.” – Nick Moroz, Director of Entrepreneurial Practice at the U-M Center for Entrepreneurship.
The Perot Jain TechLab programs bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. By working alongside startups and established companies, students gain firsthand experience tackling challenges in the mobility sector. Their presence at AutoMobili-D showcased the vibrant innovation ecosystem these programs cultivate and the shared drive to shape the future of transportation.
Attendees appreciated the chance to interact with U-M students, noting their ingenuity and passion. From discussions on electric vehicle advancements to the impact of autonomous systems, Perot Jain TechLab participants infused the event with fresh energy and ideas.
Looking ahead, the Center for Entrepreneurship remains committed to preparing students to lead and innovate in the ever-evolving fields of technology and entrepreneurship.
