• A Toyota Supra Mk4 was destroyed following a police chase in Florida.
  • The driver was reportedly speeding and attempted to elude authorities.
  • A PIT maneuver was performed, which caused the car to crash and catch fire.

It’s hard to tell from the wreckage, but you’re looking at the twisted remains of a classic fourth-generation Toyota Supra. The car was destroyed following a police chase in Florida, which also resulted in an arrest as well as two non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a trooper was patrolling the Gandy Bridge when they observed the A80 Supra going 93 mph (150 km/h) in a 55 mph (89 km/h) zone. The trooper then initiated a traffic stop, but the driver reportedly fled at speeds in excess of 100 mph (161 km/h).

The trooper eventually caught up to the Supra and performed a PIT maneuver. This caused the coupe to spin and crash into a light pole, before bursting into flames. The resulting damage is pretty extensive as the front end has been obliterated. The rear bumper was also ripped off, while the windshield and back glass were broken.

Given the severity of the crash, it’s lucky the two people inside weren’t seriously hurt. However, both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver was identified as 31-year-old Brandon Ramnarine of Tampa and he’s been charged with fleeing and eluding at high speed. This appears to be a second degree felony, which could result in a $10,000 fine as well as up to 15 years in prison.

That’s a life changing penalty and police used the incident to remind drivers not to run. While going 38 mph (61 km/h) over the speed limit isn’t great, the punishment is a lot less severe than fleeing and eluding.
