Top 5 Best-selling Electric Cars in Ireland (2025)

Posted on July 16, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Top 5 Best-selling Electric Cars in Ireland (2025)

New car registrations in Ireland rose by 3.5% in the first half of 2025, reaching 81,750 units, according to the latest figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

Electric vehicle (EV) sales show strong growth in 2025, with 13,631 new EVs registered, up 27% on the same period in 2024, though trailing somewhat 2023’s mid-year figure of 14,307.

Growing awareness of climate change, combined with expanding charging infrastructure and new government incentives like the ‘green flash’ number plate for EVs are helping to drive consumer interest in electric vehicles. Lower running costs, zero tailpipe emissions and an increasingly competitive range of models have made EVs a viable alternative to petrol and diesel cars for more buyers across the country.

As more drivers make the switch to cleaner zero-emissions motoring, a few standout models are leading the charge.

According to the latest figures from SIMI, these are the top 5 most popular electric vehicles in Ireland for 2025 so far:

1. Volkswagen ID.4

Holding firm in the top spot, the Volkswagen ID.4 remains Ireland’s most popular electric vehicle in 2025. With two battery options and up to 533 kilometres of range, the ID.4 is a trendy SUV that hits a sweet spot for Irish buyers with a combination of space, practicality and comfort. Even better, it’s now more affordable than ever, starting from just €34,850.

2. Tesla Model 3

The recently updated Tesla Model 3 continues to impress with its sleek design, improved interior quality and equipment, as well as range and charging. There are a number of options available including rear wheel drive for the best efficiency and all wheel drive for the best performance. Its price point (from €37,484) and Tesla’s Supercharger network also adds to its appeal.

3. Kia EV3

New for 2025, the Kia EV3 is already making waves in the Irish market. Kia’s new electric SUV packages all the Korean brand’s expertise in EVs into a compact package with an attractive sticker price from €36,790 and the choice of two battery options. The quirky design, practical interior, driving competence and impressive equipment levels make the EV3 a stand-out star if you’re looking for a great all-round compact electric SUV.

4. Kia EV6

The EV6 has been another success story for Kia in Ireland. A former Irish Car of the Year, the sporty coupé-like crossover boasts excellent range and charging rates that makes it a good companion for the road. Priced from €49,510, the EV6 has just been updated for more power and more range up to 582 kilometres thanks to a new battery. 800 volt charging architecture means that you can get an 80% battery charge in as little as 18 minutes. There are some tweaks to styling and the interior for 2025 to keep it at the top of its game.

A heavily revised Model Y arrived in June with serious upgrades to the interior, as well as comfort and refinement. It remains a stylish and spacious electric SUV with a minimalist, tech-focused cabin and efficient electric powertrain.
