This Trucker Is Getting The ‘Low Clearance’ Talk Again
  • The massive wind turbine carved out part of the concrete overpass.
  • Local authorities may have to keep the highway closed for up to a week.
  • The trucker was supposed to follow a support crew up an off-ramp.

If you thought you had a bad day at work last Friday, spare a thought for the driver of this truck. While transporting part of a wind turbine, the trucker and his load became wedged under an overpass in the Australian state of Queensland, not far from Brisbane city, forcing local authorities to shut down one side of the highway.

adpushup.que.push(function() {
if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){
adpushup.triggerAd(“0f7e3106-c4d6-4db4-8135-c508879a76f8”);
} else {
adpushup.triggerAd(“82503191-e1d1-435a-874f-9c78a2a54a2f”);
}
});

The accident happened at approximately 1:40 a.m. on April 16. As you may have guessed, transporting items as massive as this requires careful planning and a crew of support vehicles. However, the local Queensland Police Service believes the truck driver may have failed to follow pilot vehicles that were supposed to escort him up an off-ramp just before the overpass.

Photos from the scene show the wind turbine part wedged right under the Mount Crosby Road overpass, near Tivoli. And just to make things a little worse for the driver, this wasn’t a quiet backroad accident. No, this happened on the Warrego Highway, a major route for commuters and freight alike.

It took a team of local engineers, including assistance from the transport company that made the huge mistake, roughly 12 hours to pull the turbine out of the overpass. However, the headaches didn’t stop there.

According to a report from The Courier Mail, the impact caused significant damage to both the underside of the overpass and the road itself. The westbound lanes of the highway are expected to be closed for up to a week as the damage is properly assessed and repaired. The closure could increase travel times for locals by 20-30 minutes.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash, although the truck driver in his 50s was transported to a local hospital for assessment. Just another Friday morning in Queensland.
