This Special Mustang Took A $52,000 Hit After Just 75 Miles

  • One of just 10 SA-40 Speedsters built to mark Saleen’s 40th anniversary.
  • Bought for $156,472 in 2023, it was resold for $104,500 with only 75 miles.
  • Signed by Steve Saleen, it’s powered by a supercharged Coyote V8 engine.

It’s not every day you see a factory-fresh collectible bleed value this quickly, but this 2023 Saleen Mustang SA-40 Speedster just did a $52,000 disappearing act. One of only 10 ever made to celebrate Saleen’s 40th anniversary, the yellow-and-black custom convertible just sold on Bring a Trailer for $104,500. That’s a steep drop from the $156,472 it was bought for less than two years ago, with just 75 miles added to the odometer.

Finished in Speedlab Yellow over black leather and signed by Steve Saleen himself, this SA-40 wears a carbon fiber tonneau cover, unique graphics, and a serialized plaque. It also packs a Saleen supercharger pushing the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 to 800 horsepower. That power routes through a 10-speed automatic gearbox and a 3.55:1 limited-slip differential to the rear tires.

More Than Just a Supercharged Mustang

This particular Mustang sold on BaT isn’t just another high-performance pony car. It boasts several desirable modifications beyond the exterior changes and extra power, including the suspension, which features Saleen-tuned R-Code Racecraft struts, shocks, springs, and sway bars.

The fenders, side skirts, front splitter, and rear fascia all feature functional aero components to keep things grounded. Inside, the car has been fitted with boost and air temperature gauges, along with heated and ventilated seats for added comfort. A custom steering wheel adds a touch of flair to the cockpit.

Despite the impressive specs and unique styling, this Mustang sat virtually unused since new. The odd part? The only owner to date is Steve Saleen himself, which makes the “Welcome!” card included in the sale a bit of a cheeky touch, especially since it’s signed by him as well.

Why Did It Sell for So Much Less?

Perhaps the low winning bid, at least when compared to MSRP, comes down to a few notable things. First, Saleen, as a tuning brand, isn’t as lauded today as it was a couple of decades ago. This isn’t the same brand that at one time built the S7 supercar. On top of that, the original Mustang that ended up becoming this SA-40 Speedster had an MSRP of $57,950.

In that light, maybe $104,500 is far more impressive. Either way, it looks like the new owner got a bit of a unicorn, and it’s in delivery condition.
