Introduced in 1988 to honor Enzo Ferrari’s 40-year legacy, the F40 was a 200mph supercar epitomizing Ferrari’s traditional approach. Derived from the 288 GTO, the mid-engined F40 featured a longitudinally mounted 3.0-liter V8 with twin turbochargers, generating 478bhp at 7,000rpm. For enthusiasts seeking more power, a factory kit offered an additional 200bhp.
Drawing from Ferrari’s Formula 1 expertise, the body used lightweight composite materials bonded to a tubular steel chassis, maximizing rigidity. Inside, the F40 reflected its racing roots with minimalistic, function-focused features, including contoured seats and a stripped-down interior.
Originally planned for 400 units, overwhelming demand saw 1,315 examples produced by the end of production in 1992. Among the final 22 built, this Ferrari F40 was completed on June 8, 1992, for Crepaldi Auto SpA. Finished in Rosso Corsa with a red and gray interior, it has been meticulously maintained by dedicated collectors.
Powered by the original 2.9-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, it features updates like a factory seatbelt kit, a Tubi exhaust (with the original exhaust included), and factory-spec Speedline wheels with Pirelli tires.
Key maintenance highlights include new ATL fuel cells installed in 2018 and comprehensive servicing by Ferrari specialists. In June 2024, GTO Engineering performed a $17,000 service covering brakes, clutch, and throttle body tuning at 14,068 kilometers.
With 14,089 kilometers recorded, this meticulously maintained F40 comes with original books, a tool roll, and a car cover, offering an exceptional opportunity for collectors. It will be auctioned at Mecum’s Kissimmee event next month.
