The Pagani Zonda Is Back. Again

The Pagani Zonda Is Back. Again

They say there are only two certainties in life: death and taxes. But we might as well add the Pagani Zonda to that list, because a new version of the immortal supercar seems to appear every few years. Originally launched in 1999, the AMG-powered performance machine is still making headlines in 2025 with yet another fresh take on its naturally aspirated V-12 formula. Even its successor, the 2011 Huayra, was replaced three years ago by the Utopia.

The latest gem is fittingly named the Zonda Unico, as Pagani has built only one. Commissioned by a client who requested design inspiration from the Kunlun Mountains, one of Asia’s longest mountain ranges, this isn’t a ground-up creation. Like other one-off Zondas, it’s a heavily reworked version of an existing chassis. You know a car is special when the rear wing has its own smaller wing. The aggressive aero package also includes a towering center fin and a prominent roof scoop.

Pagani hasn’t shared technical details, but the car appears to feature a full carbon fiber body with a stunning blue tint. Several components are finished in exposed carbon fiber, including the windshield frame, side mirror caps, headlight housings, and numerous vents. The blue accents carry over to the center-lock wheels, brake calipers, quad exhaust tips, and the taillight surround.

The Zonda is living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks. Despite being a 26-year-old design, it looks as breathtaking today as it did when the original Zonda C12 debuted at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show. Power still comes from an AMG-sourced V-12, likely the 7.3-liter version with up to 760 horsepower, considering this Unico is seemingly based on the Zonda 760 Roadster. We want to think it also has a gated shifter, though interior images haven’t surfaced yet.

It’s interesting to realize that while we’ve seen a dozen new/old Zondas over the last years, the Huayra hasn’t been even remotely as popular. Why is that? Sure, it’s a newer car, but Pagani made more Huayras. It’s a question that probably only the ultra-rich can answer.
