The NFDA celebrates International Women’s Day

The NFDA is celebrating International Women’s Day (8th march), with CEO Sue Robinson highlighting the importance of continuing to address outdated stereotypes and barriers within the industry.

Robinson is a member of the Automotive 30% Club, working alongside more than 70 CEOs and MDs to drive meaningful change.

She said: “The automotive industry is evolving, and one of the most encouraging aspects of this transformation is the increasing focus on gender diversity and inclusion.

“International Women’s Day underscores the urgency of fostering fairness and equity in every workplace.

“Every individual, regardless of gender, should have the opportunity to excel in this dynamic sector.”

One of the key focus areas of the NFDA’s employment initiative, Drive My Career which launched in 2018, is to make the sector more accessible and appealing to women.

At Drive My Career events, delegates come together to discuss driving greater diversity, supporting career progression and creating leadership opportunities for women.

Robinson added: “Mentorship plays a crucial role in this journey. By offering guidance and encouragement, we can help all individuals navigate the challenges of the industry and unlock their full potential.

“With confidence, resilience, and access to the same opportunities as their male counterparts, women can thrive in automotive careers. Businesses must focus on creating a level playing field where talent is the defining factor – not gender.

“For women looking to progress in the sector, my advice is simple: embrace every opportunity, believe in your capabilities, and never hesitate to seek support when needed. A fulfilling career is built not just on ambition, but also on finding joy and passion in your work.”

This International Women’s Day, NFDA and Drive My Career will celebrate the incredible women in the sector with a social media campaign showcasing pioneers, innovators, and industry leaders.
