Audi has introduced a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) to the A5 series for the first time, offering enhanced comfort and efficiency. The new A5 e-hybrid models feature a 2.0 TFSI engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 299PS (220kW). A significantly upgraded high-voltage battery provides around 45% more capacity, enabling an electric range of up to 67 miles on UK-spec models.

At the heart of the new A5 plug-in hybrid is the new high-voltage battery at the rear of the vehicle. Audi has boosted its capacity to 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh), a gain of roughly 45 percent. Maximum AC charging power has been increased to 11 kW. This increase in power reduces the charging time from 0 to 100 percent to just 2.5 hours.

Regenerative braking has been improved, and drivers can now adjust energy recuperation via steering-wheel paddles. The hybrid system automatically optimizes efficiency, with two driving modes: “EV” for all-electric operation and “hybrid” for strategic energy management. Maximum AC charging power has increased to 11 kW, reducing full charge time to just 2.5 hours.
Improved Standard Equipment
The A5 PHEV models come with extensive standard equipment, including progressive steering, navigation, an MMI panoramic display, and an inductive phone charging pad. Additional features include three-zone automatic air conditioning, auxiliary air conditioning, and 18-inch wheels.

The Avant model offers a boot capacity of 361 litres, expandable to 1,306 litres with the rear seats folded (40:20:40 split), while the Saloon provides 331 litres, increasing to 1,175 litres. The A5 can tow braked trailers up to 1,900kg and unbraked trailers up to 750kg, with a maximum roof load of 90kg and a nose weight limit of 80kg.
Pricing starts at £48,950 for the A5 Saloon e-hybrid quattro and £50,850 for the A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro.
