After several teasers on Facebook and Instagram, Mercedes has unveiled the Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept: an electric supercar with up to 1,360 PS, axial flux motors, retractable wheels, no rear window, a futuristic interior, and an exterior design inspired by the Vision One Eleven concept.

The electric successor to the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and future rival to the Porsche Taycan is here. Although it’s currently just a concept, it’s one of the most spectacular electric models ever presented.

It’s the first model built on the new AMG.EA platform, measuring 5.20 meters in length, 1.95 meters in width, and 1.31 meters in height—making it longer than the AMG Vision Concept (5.1 meters) and the current AMG GT 4-Door Coupe (5.05 meters).

Compared to its future rival, the Mercedes-AMG GT XX is 24 cm longer and 7 cm lower, with a smaller frontal area of 2.24 m². This allows the Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept to promise an incredible drag coefficient (Cx) of only 0.198, compared to 0.22 for the Porsche Taycan. It remains to be seen whether the final production version will maintain this record-setting Cx.

Front Design Inspired by the Vision One Eleven Concept

The Mercedes-AMG GT XX is a sunset orange fastback coupe with a low hood, flat windshield, and no rear window—just like the Vision AMG concept. The radiator grille features vertical struts and rectangular auxiliary headlights recessed into its outer edges.The hood has two-part air outlets, each with two fins, designed to dissipate heat from the horizontal cooling modules at the front of the vehicle and optimize airflow. The front splitter wraps far around the front of the car and includes an integrated air-curtain function that extends to the front wheel arches.

The long, low greenhouse with a double-bubble roof and three windows on each side sits atop muscular rear shoulders, while the mirrors are mounted on the front doors like in classic sports cars. The dynamic rear end is marked by two sets of triple circular taillights, a visible carbon diffuser, and an active airbrake.

Smart Cooling

Cooling is managed through the two air intakes in the hood and a passive cooling plate located at the front underbody. In addition, the 21-inch wheels have an active cooling system. They are equipped with five plastic aeroblades that open when needed. During normal driving, they remain closed to minimize drag. If stronger cooling is required, they open to direct air to the brake discs.

Race-Inspired Interior

The dashboard is dominated by two displays mounted under a single glass panel: 10.25 inches for the instrument cluster and 14 inches for the infotainment system, both angled toward the driver. The steering wheel is a rectangular-shaped yoke like in the AMG One, and the paddle shifters are used not for shifting gears but for adjusting energy recuperation levels. An 8-LED system on the steering wheel informs the driver of battery charge (blue), recuperation status, and performance (red).

The front bucket seats have a carbon fiber shell similar to racing seats, six-point safety harnesses, ventilation openings, and integrated headrests. The seat cushions are 3D-printed and can be customized for each driver upon request. They are upholstered in a material called Labfiber, a biotechnological leather alternative.

To save weight, the rear bucket seats are made of carbon fiber and are integrated into the rear bulkhead. The roof has no headliner, reducing weight and exposing the carbon-fiber structure.

The interior is entirely finished in black, with silver and orange accents. Exposed structural elements and visible cables give it a raw, performance-focused look. The center console is made from open extruded aluminum with illuminated tubes resembling high-voltage cables.

The floor covering is made from 100% recycled materials. Its checkered pattern echoes motorsport themes.

Mercedes-AMG GT XX

Three YASA Axial-Flux Motors

Three YASA axial-flux motors will power the Mercedes-AMG GT XX. Two of them are integrated into the rear axle, each in a compact unit with a planetary gearset and inverter.

The third motor is placed on the front axle, also in a compact unit with a spur-gear transmission and inverter. It only activates when extra power is needed, acting as a power boost, and can be disconnected via a mechanical clutch to save energy. The motors and transmission are oil-cooled.

Torque distribution is fully variable between front and rear axles depending on traction.

YASA axial-flux motors offer high power in compact and lightweight packages due to electromagnetic flow running along the motor’s axis. Weighing only 24 kg, a YASA motor is two-thirds lighter and one-third the size of a conventional electric motor.

This compact and lightweight design makes the motors easier to cool, easier to position near the wheels and allows them to deliver higher continuous power. A single YASA motor can deliver up to 348 kW (474 PS). The total system output exceeds 1,000 kW (1,360 PS), with a top speed of over 360 km/h.

New High-Voltage Battery

The battery in the Mercedes-AMG GT XX is completely new, engineered for continuous high performance and fast charging. It uses 800V technology and tall, narrow cylindrical cells designed for efficient heat dissipation. Each cell is directly surrounded by non-conductive coolant, enabling precise temperature control even under heavy load. The cells are housed in laser-welded plastic modules with integrated cooling channels.

The cell casings are made of laser-welded aluminum, which is lighter than steel and has better thermal conductivity. The battery contains over 3,000 cells.

The battery chemistry uses NCMA for the cathode (nickel, cobalt, manganese, aluminum) and includes silicon in the anode. It delivers a unique mix of high energy density (300 Wh/kg, 740 Wh/l at cell level), powerful charging performance, and a long lifespan.

Intelligent heat management maintains each cell module’s coolant temperature exactly as needed (on-demand cooling). This allows the battery to maintain its high power output even during dynamic driving with frequent acceleration and deceleration (via recuperation).

As a result, energy for 400 km can be charged in just 5 minutes, almost as fast as refueling a combustion engine car. The battery supports charging power of up to 850 kW, and charging station maker Alpitronic has developed a prototype charger capable of delivering 1,000 amps, the first of its kind.

The high-voltage battery is mounted between the axles in a structural housing that’s integrated into the vehicle’s frame. AMG has developed all switch components and the Battery Management System (BMS) in-house.

YASA engines enter in series production in 2026

Mercedes has announced that YASA motors will go into production in 2026, but has not given any launch date for the production version of this concept. According to unofficial information, the four-door coupe is expected to debut in 2026, followed in 2027 by the SUV—which has already been shown in camouflaged form—and by an electric hypercar, all built on the high-performance AMG.EA electric platform.
