In a post featured on the Mercedes-AMG Facebook page on May 8, 2025, Mercedes-AMG announced “something big” for June 2025. The post had the hashtag #SOAMG and featured the silhouette of a sports car.
We believe it’s the electric successor to the AMG GT 4-door coupe based on the new AMG.EA dedicated electric platform.
From the first official photos we can see that the camouflaged car has no exhaust pipes, the headlamps have the lights like the Mercedes logo and the front hood is very low to achieve the lowest Cx. At the rear, there’s a relatively massive trunk lid and round taillights with lights that also incorporate the Mercedes logo.
Michael Schiebe said that this model must be AMG first and only then electric car. On the Nurburgring circuit, it should be as fast as a combustion-engined AMG.
The new super coupe will use axial-flow engines from YASA, a company bought by Mercedes. The Yasa engine weighs only 24 kg and develops up to 474 PS and 800 Nm, so the new model could deliver 948 PS and 1,600 Nm. The engines will be powered by new batteries made in cooperation with Sila in which the anode is made of a high percentage of silicon, which replaces the graphite at the negative pole of the battery. Thus, Sila promises an increase in energy density by 20-40%, which means that the new battery will have an energy density of 800 Wh/l compared to 500 Wh/l at present.
The electric successor to the Mercedes-AMG GT will not be the only model on the AMG.EA platform. An SUV with the same characteristics will follow in 2026.
Mercedes-AMG GT GT 4-door coupe electric will take over the design of the Mercedes Vision AMG concept presented in 2022 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Vision AMG AMG concept fits perfectly in terms of proportions with the current Mercedes-AMG GT4-door coupe having 5,100 mm length and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm (AMG GT4-door coupe 5,054 mm length, 2,951 mm wheelbase).
Some rumors say the interior will be inspired by the Vision One Eleven concept.
Due to declining sales of electric models, we expect that the new electric Mercedes-AMG GT GT 4-door coupe will not replace the current-generation Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe and the two models will be sold in parallel at least for a while.
