BIMMERPOST

As I wrote in a previous post I go on a road trip few times a year with my family or alone but there is one place I go to every year preferably alone and this place is none other than Grossglockner in Austria. Saturday I looked at the weather forecast and I decided to go for a drive early Sunday mornig to celebrate my car’s 10.000km “birthday” at my favorite place and to have a proper drive.
I started my drive at 3:40 am and arrived at 7:50 at the Edelweiss Spitze at 2571 meters above sea level. Unfortutately I missed the sunrise but I managed to take some pictures in good lighting conditions but I realyzed only at home that most of the times my camera was not adjusted properly (I didn’t want to deal to much with the settings of my camera and spend my time instead of driving), the half of my pictures were too dark and the other half too bright so I needed to use lightroom a lot to improve or try to improve the pictures which were taken with iphone and a cheap Canon camera.

The Car after 10.000km’s:
+: I love it, for me this is the perfect choice for longer trips like this, properly quick, stable in corners, brakes are amazing and the car is really comfortable in efficiend or comfort modes. I had a relaxing journey between my home and the Grossglockner, I had only a slight discomfort in my legs but i think this is normal after 900 km-s and 11 hours of driving.

-: front right brakes are squeking when they get warm after a proper ride and i have the same clicking noise from my right front suspension while i turn my steering wheel or cornering, same clicking noice as in my previous cars (f80, f87), pirellis are not the best tyres after my experience.

Tips for the Grossglockner:

-get there early, preferably when the toll gate opens (5:30 or 6 am) otherwise your fun driving is impossible because after 9 am there is a lot of traffic, maybe after 15-16pm it is not so crowded
-have a coffee stop at F.A.T. Mankei at Fuscher Lacke(2262m), you can also book accomodation there and the whole night is yours on the high alpine road which otherwise is closed after 20 pm.
-have a lot of fun

Ps: it is not easy to capture the color of the car, but i have tried so hard
