Tesla has demonstrated its Full Self Driving (FSD) driving assistance suite in a right-hand-drive vehicle, as depicted on the Tesla AI X/Twitter channel.
The one-minute, 50-second video clip demonstrating FSD played in fast-forward shows a person in the driver’s seat supervising its operation as it navigates traffic. The driver starts the procedure from the vehicle’s touchscreen, and the car proceeds to steer itself out of its street parking space.
The feature can be seen to navigate the vehicle around traffic encountered on its journey, including changing lanes to get around stationary vehicles, crossing a junction, and – around 13 seconds into the clip – perform a hook turn, which is to turn right across traffic from the far left lane (in Melbourne, this is to free up space for the movement of trams).
This demonstration of FSD also shows its ability to stop for pedestrian at a junction, and continues to navigate through traffic before eventually coming to a stop at what appears to be the lobby of a shopping centre.
The American EV maker announced last September that its Full Self Driving assistance suite would be released in right-hand-drive markets from late in the first quarter, or early in the second quarter of this year, following its release in Europe and China in Q1.
As description of the video clip indicates, this demonstration of FSD in Melbourne is on a supervised testing basis, and there is yet to be official confirmation of its official release for the Australian market. On the Tesla Malaysia website, both the Model 3 and Model Y can be specified with Full Self Driving at RM32,000 or Enhanced Autopilot at RM16,000, though the former is not permitted for use in Malaysia at present.
