GOTHENBURG, Sweden — Startup Adsorbi, a manufacturer of bio-based adsorbents for the air purification industry, has launched a pilot plant. The move is designed to prepare the company for commercial scaling and strategic partnerships.
The new plant will produce Adsorbi’s proprietary air purification material, made from Nordic cellulose and already sold in six countries for a variety of applications.
Located in Gothenburg, Sweden, the facility is designed to demonstrate the performance and scalability of Adsorbi’s proprietary materials in industrial settings, a press release from the company said. The pilot plant will serve as the company’s primary platform for validating market fit, gathering key operational data, and answering the growing needs of Adsorbi’s current clients, the press release said.
“This pilot plant is a major inflection point,” said Hanna Munge, CEO of Adsorbi. “It de-risks our technology for a commercial scale and opens the door to revenue-generating deployments. With growing regulatory pressure for air purification companies and growing market demand for bio-based gas filter media, our platform is well-positioned for rapid adoption.”
In October 2024, the European Union (EU) adopted an updated Ambient Air Quality Directive, aimed at safeguarding public health. The directive sets stricter limits for major pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide, substances closely linked to respiratory problems, the press release said. Adsorbi targets the multi-billion-dollar market of gaseous pollution removal with innovative adsorbents produced from wood-based cellulose fibers.
Munge said Adsorbi plans to bring its product to the U.S. market.
