It seems the Nissan driver repeatedly overcorrected while trying to powerslide the sports car

  • It seems the driver of this Nissan Z was far too eager with the car’s throttle.
  • Turning off traction and stability control on public roads is like asking for trouble.
  • In this case, the driver of the Z tried to kick out the car’s tail and hit a spectator.

Host a car meet in the US and you can be assured that plenty of attendees will try and put on a show for the crowd while leaving by mashing the throttle and trying to lay down some thick black lines on the road. It’s a tried-and-true formula for drawing attention, but for one Nissan Z driver at a recent meet, that plan didn’t quite go as expected.

The owner of the Japanese sports car had been attending the Car Culture meet in Katy, Texas, and like plenty of others at the event, aggressively pulled onto the nearby highway, likely eager to impress those waiting on the side of the road. But, unfortunately, it quickly became clear that the driver’s idea of “impressive” didn’t match up with his actual driving abilities.

Right after pulling out of the driveway, the rear end of the Z starts to slide. Instead of letting it correct itself, the driver immediately overcorrects, causing the car to wobble uncomfortably. Not one to give up easily, he floors the throttle again, hoping to regain control—but the car kicks out even further to the left. Another overcorrection follows, this time more severe than the last.

With the front wheels briefly turned in the direction of a concrete barrier on the side of the road, that’s exactly the direction the Z heads to. The clip shows it cresting the curb and slamming into the wall. To make matters worse, a spectator was standing on the side of the road and was hit by the car.

The impact was severe enough to bust one of the car’s headlights, smash up the front bumper and hood, and badly damaging the driver’s side front wheel. Inevitably, the driver had to leave the car parked on the side of the road while police attended to the scene.
