Spanish Grand Prix: Piastri Takes Commanding Victory

Oscar Piastri dominated the Spanish Grand Prix to claim his fifth win of the season, extending his championship lead and leading McLaren to a 1-2 finish ahead of teammate Lando Norris. Starting from pole, Piastri made a strong getaway and held off early pressure from Max Verstappen, who had jumped Norris into Turn 1. Though Verstappen briefly took the lead after the first pit stops, an early second stop handed Piastri the advantage again, setting up a strategic battle between McLaren and Red Bull.

The race took a dramatic turn when a late Safety Car was deployed due to Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes stopping with a mechanical issue. This allowed the front-runners to pit once more for fresh tyres, setting up a six-lap sprint to the finish. While Piastri and Norris charged ahead, Verstappen lost third to Charles Leclerc and then became entangled in a heated scrap with George Russell. After two incidents, Verstappen was handed a 10-second time penalty, which ultimately demoted him to tenth place at the finish.

Behind the podium finishers — Piastri, Norris, and Leclerc — Russell claimed fourth, and Nico Hulkenberg delivered an outstanding drive to finish fifth after starting 15th. Lewis Hamilton was sixth for Ferrari, followed by Isack Hadjar in seventh and Pierre Gasly in eighth.

Fernando Alonso finally scored his first points of the season in ninth for Aston Martin, while Verstappen’s penalty dropped him to the final points-paying position. Lance Stroll missed the race due to a hand injury, while Antonelli and Alex Albon were the only retirements in an eventful race.
