Dealers are notorious for their markups, but in this case, one managed to take a loss on a practically new Dodge Durango Hellcat

- A lucky buyer scooped up a brand-new 2024 Durango with 25 miles for $81,500 at auction.
- It has just 25 miles and the dealer that sold it initially planned to keep it as a collection piece.
- Now, the Stellantis dealer has moved on and bought a 2025 edition to lock up and never drive.
It’s no secret that dealers are always out for their pound of markup flesh whenever the opportunity arises. Sticker price? Merely a suggestion. But every once in a while,, the tables turn, and when they do, the outcome can be downright entertaining. In this case, a Stellantis dealer in New York just took a substantial financial hit, and not the kind you shrug off.
We’re talking tens of thousands of dollars lost because the original owner apparently planned to stash this Dodge Durango SUV as a collector’s item, only to change their mind and auction it off instead.

Mind you, this isn’t just any old hopped-up Dodge Durango, but a 2024 SRT Hellcat. The Hellrango, as some fans call it, cranks out 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft (873 Nm) of torque from its supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8. It sends that power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox with Dodge claiming a supercar-like 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds. It’s not just a one-trick pony either, as it has three rows of seats and can tow up to 8,700 pounds!
Those reasons are why the MSRP on this exact car was $112,880, including $15,290 worth of optional equipment like the Premium Package 2XY and Black Package, as well as a $1,595 destination charge.

Yet despite all that, the Empire Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership in NY ended up letting it go for just $81,500 with only 25 miles on the odometer. To put that into perspective, that selling price actually less than the original MSRP of the Durango Hellcat when it first launched back in 2021.
As far as auctions go, this one seemingly flew under the radar as it gathered just 17 comments and an equal number of bids. The day the auction was finishing, bidding was only up to $60,500. By 9:37 a.m., it ticked up to $80,000 and barely moved again before the hammer fell. That’s a weird outcome, but a good indication that deals are still out there.

What made this Durango sell for that price could very well be due to the dealer’s actions. Whoever decided to post it on Bring A Trailer didn’t seem to worry about the details. The photos are amateurish, the wheels don’t have center caps, and they didn’t take the time to remove the plastic long enough to show buyers the upholstery—though, to be fair, that might actually work in its favor as proof it hasn’t been touched.
But hey, one man’s loss in another man’s gain, right? In this case, a very big gain on the part of the winning bidder who got one of the last Hemi V8s currently on sale for what amounts to a pretty hefty discount. Sometimes, all it takes is a poorly executed listing and a little patience.
H/T to Jason!
