- Only 3,333 Dale Earnhardt Edition Monte Carlo SS models were built by Chevy.
- The coupe features a 3.8-liter naturally-aspirated V6 with 200 hp and 225 lb-ft.
- A similar Monte Carlo SS sold for $11,200 recently, but this one’s listed for $32,500.
Here’s a special edition version of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS you may not have ever heard of before. It’s called the Dale Earnhardt Edition, and it was built to commemorate the iconic stock car driver who was tragically killed during the Daytona 500 in 2001. Now could be your chance to buy one, but it’s not cheap.

Chevy built a total of 3,333 Monte Carlo SS models to remember the North Carolina-born driver, with each one receiving the same black, silver, and red paint scheme, inspired by Earnhardt’s race car. By modern standards, the SS looks a little wacky, but it will certainly stand out on the road.

Unfortunately (but fortunately for the next buyer), this Monte Carlo SS has only been driven 7 miles. It has also been in the same family since new and has a clean Carfax report, meaning it could be the perfect addition to a collection.
Listed up for sale through ClassicCarsInc in Bentonville, Arkansas, the Chevy has an asking price of $32,500. Whether or not it will sell for that much remains to be seen. A look at the window sticker reveals the car had an original price of $29,575, which is the equivalent of $52,737 in today’s money, or roughly the same as a modern Ford Mustang GT.

However, earlier this month, another Monte Carlo SS Dale Earnhardt Edition was sold on Cars & Bids, fetching just $11,200. Admittedly, that car had 4,300 miles under its belt and needed some engine work, but other than that, it was still in relatively good condition. Is the example in Arkansas really worth almost three times as much? We’ll let the market decide that one.
Powering the car is a 3.8-liter naturally-aspirated V6 with 200 hp and 225 lb-ft (305 Nm) of torque. This engine spins the front wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
