The car is in great shape inside and out, and you won’t find many P2 R’s that have been cared for with this level of detail. My father was a Volvo tech and I have learned from him along with 20 years of working on Volvo’s as a hobby. I performed nearly all the work done to the car since taking ownership in 2017 at 67k miles, the car currently has 101.6k miles on the odo.
This is the only Volvo 5-cylinder turbo that I have owned that doesn’t consume any oil between oil changes, the engine runs perfect, and the sound is amazing from the full Ferrita exhaust. Handling and road feel is about as good as anything I have driven including a new Z4, E90 and F30s BMWs, VW GTI etc.
I hope this R goes to another enthusiast who will continue to enjoy and care for this great car that is becoming rarer by the year. This car should have little to no trouble to make another 100k with good upkeep. The cost of the mods and parts are well over the asking price and it took hundreds of hours of labor to perform all the work.

Exterior / Cosmetic:
- A new factory painted front bumper was installed in 2023 with new L trim strips and a custom lower center grill insert with hexagon pattern ABS.
- Included in the sale is a set of used GT side skirts that need paint to match, they are Mystic Silver.
- Included is a set of OEM Volvo front splitters new in factory box, they unpainted from factory and require painting.
- GT rear lower bumper cover was installed, this was due to being hit in a parking lot at under 2 mph.
- New Depo Fog lights with silicon added to housing/bulb holder interface for reliability.
- Osram night breaker HID bulbs, yellow halogen fog light bulbs, mirrored turn signal bulbs.
- The car was just clay barred, machine polished and coated with Turtle Wax Graphene, the paint is silky smooth.
Drivetrain Maintenance and Upgrades:
- PVD high strength collar gear
- Angle gear sourced 35k mi unit (Excellent Spline Teeth) had full reseal/rebuild with new OEM seals and Motul 75w-90 oil at 77k mi.
- Trans gearbox oil flushed, running Motul
- Rear diff fluid replaced with Motul
- New Haldex pump, filter and fluid flush at 95k mi.
- Prop shaft CVs regreased with redline synthetic and painted with high temp enamel, new Volvo propshaft center bearing mounting bracket, at 95k mi.
- Spec single mass flywheel installed at 77k with new OE Luk clutch, pressure plate and new slave cylinder.
- Clutch feel is excellent, slight chatter at idle with clutch out which is normal for the single mass flywheel.
- Snabb short shift kit installed
- All shifter bushings replaced with OEM in console at 77k
- I spent years trying to get the shift engagement to feel right as it was rough when I bought the car at 67k mi, it is now shifting beautifully, and I have a few theories as to why these cars can have trouble shifting on the M66, PM me if you need some suggestions.
Cooling System Maintenance:
- Full cooling system replacement: all OEM Volvo hoses, including heater core hoses and oil cooler hoses at 100K mi.
- Thermostat with temp sensor replaced with OEM at 70k mi
- New OEM Behr heater core, 100k mi.
- New Denso AC Condenser, 100k mi.
- New Nissen Radiator, 100k mi.
- New PCV system replaced all OEM Volvo, throttle body cleaned like new, 100k mi.
- New oil cooler upgraded to larger Behr unit, 100k mi.
- OEM Volvo coolant reservoir replaced in 2022
- Fresh 50/50 Volvo Coolant and Distilled water in 100k mi.
Engine and peripherals:
- Timing belt done at 68k with INA tensioner and idler, Continental belt. Water pump was checked within 1k miles and had no play or weeping.
- New INA accessory belt tensioner/idler and Continental accessory belt, 2023
- Rear Main Seal replaced with OEM Volvo seal during clutch replacement at 77k mi, preventative
- All engine mounts replaced including hydraulic mounts at 77k mi
- Every engine system sensor except knock sensor replaced with OEM including both Cam pos sensors, Crank sensor, Front O2, Throttle body, MAF, MAP, Clutch position sensor, Brake booster sensor, Evap purge valve, Emission leak detection pump, Porsche Peirburg boost control solenoid, New Bosch coils packs with NGK iridium plugs installed at 72k
- Almost every inch of protective split wire loom replaced with high temp loom from McMaster Carr
- Cooling fan cleaned and bearing lubed with synthetic oil
- Alternator replaced with new OEM Volvo at 67k
- Fuel Filter replaced at 70k with Mahle
- New OEM Mahle air filter in 2023, K&N air filter included if wanted
- All vacuum hoses replaced with blue silicone hoses
- Vacuum check valves replaced with Porsche/VW
- The engine runs great and consumes no oil between changes and has only seen synthetic throughout its life, all oil changes done under 5k miles.
- I’ve run only Castrol Edge 0w-40 and Mahle filters in my ownership.
Suspension Maintenance and Upgrades:
- Front and rear 4C Monroes replaced at 78k mi., new XC90 front spring seats, bearing plates, bumpers and shock boots.
- New rear shock mount bushings and upper spring seats at 78k mi.
- TME lowering springs installed at 78k mi.
- Control arms rebuilt with Volvo front bushings and XC90 rear bushings at 78k mi.
- Subframe bushings replaced with XC90 HD version and IPD poly inserts at 78k mi.
- IPD sway bars with newer bushings and .005″ Teflon wrap applied at bushing contact areas, grease fittings installed on rear bushings. Front bushings re-greased around 85k mi.
- IPD solid torque bar mounts
- IPD rear camber bushing kit
- IPD poly lower trans torque mount bushing
- New Lemforder front and rear sway links at 95k mi.
- New inner and outer tie rods with boots available uninstalled, no play currently
- Power steering flushed twice with Pentosin CHF 202.
- Custom ride height endlinks made to accommodate lower ride height for 4C height sensors.
- 4C calibration performed and is working great with the TME springs.

- Brake vacuum ejector valve replaced at 70k mi.
- Ferodo Premier Pads front and rear.
- E-brake shoes replaced, and e-brake spur adjusters installed in 2017.
- Both E-brake cables replaced in 2017.
- E-brake working perfectly.
- Brake fluid flushed with Pentosin DOT4+ multiple times
Wheels and Tires:
- BBS 18 x 8 SRs in Himalayan Gray, 1 new spare BBS Included

Interior Maintenance and Upgrades:
- Late P2 R Design steering wheel with perforated leather, excellent condition.
- New OEM S60R Shift knob installed in 2022, (rare and pricey).
- New Airbag, recall performed 2022
- New Volvo HU-850 Headunit installed 2024 with Blue Music Bluetooth hands free adapter, mic mounted above driver’s side A pillar.
- Sylvania Zevo LED lighting in all interior locations.
- Drivers window switch caps all replaced.
- Sunroof shade guides and sunroof modesty panels were replaced in 2023.
- Original R Nordkap floor mats in good condition.
- Like new set of Volvo all weather rubber floor mats included.
- All door cards were treated with hot glue at all seams and butyl rubber behind door cards, for sound deadening.
- Speakers were sealed to door with hot glue to minimize rattles from speakers.
- Most interior panels were treated with hot glue, butyl rubber or adhesive felt to minimize squeaks and rattles, no interior noises over rough roads.
- Sound dampening installed on all doors and partial trunk areas.
- Alarm module battery pack was replaced and housing resealed with epoxy.
- Includes 3 key fobs, 1 key is new and programmed however the key needs to be cut as my dealer could not cut the key.
I’m sure I’m forgetting several other repairs and maintenance items, though this conveys the level of detail that this car has gone through.
