The four-wheel circuit motorsports scene in Malaysia is set to get going once again this year with the return of the Skilldrvn One Make Race Series that has run for two seasons with the Suzuki Swift, and will enter its third season in 2025, run by the Kegani Racing Academy and which will consist of five rounds held in conjunction with the Malaysia Speed Festival (MSF) at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit.
The second season of the Skilldrvn One Make Race Series which ran through 2024 was won by Loke Yin Yi, who brought home RM8,500 worth of products and racing incentives. The recently concluded Season 2 also uncovered young talent in the form of rookie racer, 15-year-old Kirill Syrapushchynski who finished the season as runner-up in his debut season, having graduated from karting.
Participants in the Skilldrvn One Make Race Series compete using identically prepared examples of the Suzuki Swift for the purpose of making racing more affordable, with only minor modifications to the car allowed. Propulsion for each race car is by a sealed, production 1.6 litre engine with a spec remap for the engine management unit, through a five-speed manual transmission with standard ratios.
Mandated safety equipment includes a 12-point roll cage and an FIA-approved racing seat and safety harness, while upgrades include a spec coilover suspension kit and lower arms, spec brake pads and steel-braided brake lines, a spec 4-into-1 exhaust extractor and alloy wheels. Participants in the One Make Race Series may either purchase a race car outright, or take part in an arrive-and-drive rental programme.
In 2026, the Kegani Racing Academy will introduce the Skilldrvn Swift Supercup Pro Series which will run alongside the One Make Race Series. Participation in the Pro Series will capped at 10 teams with one driver per team, and the teams are to select their drivers from the One Make Race Series talent pool for competition at at higher, professional level.
Drivers chosen for the Pro Series will be given a racing contract with all running costs covered by the team, according to Kegani Racing Academy. Two teams have confirmed their participation in the 2026, and these are the Bendix Ultimate Racing Team and Team Profimax Max Up.
“The format of a one-make race emphasizes on honing skills and developing new talent on the track while keeping the cost affordable and within reach of a larger talent pool. We’ve successfully run the series for two years and coming into our third year, there seems to be a great boost in the level of interest from newcomers,” said Kegani Racing Academy team principal and chief coach, Kenny Lee.
