Grant Stahla, Co-owner of Stahla Services, a nationwide provider of restroom, shower, and ADA trailer rentals again joins Enterprise Radio.
Listen to host Eric Dye & guest Grant Stahla discuss the following:
(Host Eric Dye) Why are shower trailers becoming essential on Kansas City construction sites?
(Guest Grant Stahla) You bet. Yeah. Kansas City construction sites get bigger and bigger. We have people that are, that the more people that are there, and it’s sort of evolving where sometimes we have construction workers that are staying on site. You might have a specialized project, something like a data center or a big facility remodel that you have to fly people in from all over the US. So, when they’re there, they might be in a camper, they might be in bunkhouse. So having a shower trailer there for your employees is crucial. Another thing is if you redo a meatpacking plant or a big, you know, meat production facility, dog food production facility in Kansas City, there’s going to be locker room. And those locker rooms, there’s going to be showers and that’s a vital part of cleaning off and going home for the day or going into that clean work environment clean. So that’s where shower trailers come in to construction projects in Kansas City.
(Host Eric Dye) How do you tailor trailers for KC’s climate and worker needs?
(Guest Grant Stahla) Yeah, absolutely. So if you rent a shower trailer from us at Stahla Services, we’re definitely going to set it up, to support whatever that sites needs are and then also the location. So if you’re in Kansas City, we’re going to make sure that we have those air conditioners working. So each shower trailer takes either three or four connections to power. So that’s one of the biggest things to make sure that you have enough power to make sure the air conditioners are working well for the shower trailers in Kansas City. The biggest draw on power are those air conditioner units, but then also we have water pumps to make sure to pump the water to all the shower heads consistently and high flow at the same time. We have power going to the water heaters, the instant water heaters. So we have two of those in each of our shower trailers. So just making sure we have good enough power to get those water heaters going to provide hot water the whole time. One of the things is that we can be up to a few 100 feet up to 300 feet away from the power source, but the closer we are, the better. If you have you know, if you imagine a pipe in and are forcing power through it, you’re the longer you go, the harder it’s going to be to have that power go through there. So we like to be close. We use big electrical cord so that that power can move freely and so you can support the air conditioners, the water heaters and the water pumps.
(Host Eric Dye) What’s a key oversight that construction managers make with site sanitation, and how can they fix it?
(Guest Grant Stahla) Yeah, well, geez. With those showers in KC, a big thing is just making sure that you have enough shower stalls for people, so making sure that we count how many people we’re gonna need to support. If it’s a big food processing facility and you have 2000 people, you know, we might need one shower head per 20 people. It kind of depends on if we’re doing one shift, two shifts, or three shifts and if people are going to be spread out and using those things at different time frames. So I would just say that the amount of shower stalls is the biggest thing and then having access to a water main to be able to drain off the gray water that comes off of those shower trailers is going to be a big deal. So ideally we have a location when we set up the shower trailer that’s within 50 feet of a sewer main, so that we can connect in and drain off that wastewater and gray water. Another point that’s sometimes missed is that a lot of times you have to get a permit to be able to drain directly into that sewer line. So working on that ahead of time to get the permit to drain into the sewer line, it’s just shower water. So it’s usually not an issue getting that permit, but those things having enough stalls, being close to that sewer line is definitely a big deal.
(Host Eric Dye) How do you serve nearby areas like St. Joseph or Overland Park?
(Guest Grant Stahla) Yeah. So we definitely enjoy serving St. Joe and Overland Park, Leawood, KS., Raytown, Atchison, definitely all the areas around Kansas City. So we serve them and we can get to them quickly. We have restroom trailers and shower trailers, Handicap accessible trailers ready to go. We make sure the inventory is clean and fixed and ready to go so that when we get that call and you have an emergency water issue at your business or at your house or you need a a trailer for an event real quick or when they had issues at the venue or something – we’re able to support them by having trailers ready. We have awesome people, awesome employees helping out so that we can solve the needs of the location and you don’t have to worry about. The specifics that we need to know go with renting a restroom trailer, shower trailer, so I would say being able to be close in proximity to those locations is a big deal. And then having really knowledgeable employees at Stahla Services to help talk about the power needs for restroom trailer, shower trailers, the water needs, the location you know, distance from where people are and maybe some of the code requirements. That’s such a big deal to be able to serve any of the towns around that area.
(Host Eric Dye) How can businesses improve worker retention with better site facilities?
(Guest Grant Stahla) Hmm. Yeah, it’s, I mean, if you’re gonna have locker rooms at your facility and then you do, you do a remodel of those locker rooms, you have to get shower trailers. You have to be able to supply showers to the workers and there’s different levels of shower trailer rentals out there. We have one level that is a level that works 100% of the time. It is aesthetically pleasing. And when you’re in there, it’s not gross. It’s clean, everything works. It’s a fresh and clean environment. So that when you go in there and leave there you’re good to go. So if you’re doing a locker room remodel, if you’re doing a big construction project, maybe you’re building a data center in Kansas City and you have people staying there. You have people in bunkhouses, or you need to have people entering your clean facility, by showering before going in, you need a shower trailer. It’s just one of those things. Whether you get it from us at Stahla Services or someone else, we would love to chat with you about some of the details of how many, how many shower heads and stalls you might need, or power and water requirements and cost and information, but definitely something to look into.
