I replaced the PCV system, cleaned the throttle body (new gasket), new intake manifold gasket, replaced the injector O-rings (and one new Bosch injector – damaged the top while removing the pintle cap ring). I also replaced the vapor canister purge valve, and a few EVAP hoses that were in bad shape. I also replaced the spark plugs and coils. I did cheap on these (I admit) – SKP coils and plugs – Plugs are Iridium gap .028. Since replacing, the car has a noticeable throatier sound to it and I am get CEL codes.
P0351 – P0355 (Ignition Coil (A-E) primary
P0442 – Evap System Leak Detected (Small Leak)
P0496 – Evap Emission System High Purge Flow.
I did clean the ports in the engine block for the PCV system. I verified that air would flow from the openings and come out the oil cap. I do have a slight suction now from the oil cap opening and it is no longer pushing out oil from there (also new oil cap gasket).
Note on plugs and wires: The original coil plugs in there were no name with one being different. That same cylinder also had and autolite copper plug (not much tip left) while the others were iridium NGK’s. I did use Dieletcric grease on bottom of coil plugs.
The car ran better before I replaced all of these components.
Side note:
I only replaced the evap hoses yesterday after driving and one of the old hoses popped off. At the same time I lost over a quart of oil from the back of the engine (turbo area) Car is still leaking some oil but not as bad as after driving with the bad hose (and not realizing it) Could the lack of vacuum cause oil to majorly push out of the rear cam seals or a turbo oil line ? I keep looking at these lines and rear cam seals and can’t identify any major leaks. There is a little weeping from the front rear cam seal and some from the oil return line off the turbo, but I am thinking it is the rear – rear cam seal. There is evidence of more leaking from this cam seal – but I haven’t seen any major obvious leaks (not even drips). I lifted the front of the car up, ran it for or a while (at higher RPMS at times), removed the top engine mount to see better, but nothing obvious appeared from looking on the top or underneath. The car was leaking oil on top previously but i attributed that to the PCV system which caused the oil to run down the back of the engine. I have both the turbo oil return line gasket and O-ring as well as two rear cam seals on order.
Tonight I am going to put the original coil plugs in to see if that helps. Any insight is appreciated.
