Retrofit Power Operated Tailgate XC60 2012 | SwedeSpeed

Hi there.

I have successfully retrofit a OEM power operated tailgate on my XC60 2012.
This work needs some experience of configuring Carconfig and using VIDA and mecanical skills.
There is something you should know first before doing this on you own. First of all, decide which system you want to retrofit, There are 3 systems on XC60(gen 1) depending on year model.
Regarding to my research, I dont see any obvious obstacles to retrofit a hydraulic system on a 2015 or a electric on a 2011 etc.
The first POT is hydraulic operated and mounted from 2010-2011, the second POT is electrically operated and mounted from 2012-2014 with one lifitng motor and one lowering motor. The last POT system also has electrically operated motors and are mounted from 2015-2017, but with the motors working as lifting and lowering in pair(big difference)

I decided to go for the POT 2012-2014.
The spare parts that you need is:

POT control unit. 31352058 or 31352525 (2012-2014)
Wiring harnes trunk(if you have keyless). 31376119 note that you need to check which connector you have in your car depending on chnr.
Soft close motor and lock 31440489
Right side lowering motor 31479628
Left side lifting motor 31479627
Closing button (see below)
Left side bracket for left motor 31420477
Right side bracket for right motor 31298792
Ball studs X 2 30640698

Other things to know is that you cant use a control unit from a V70 on a XC60. In XC60, the POT have a “inclination sensor” built within the control unit
The control unit is located in the tailgate itself. The control unit recive the angle of the car from CEM and calculate the inclination of the tailgate from its sensor.
The V70 does not have this feature at all, it is mounted inside of the trunk on left side.

Lets start retrofit..

First remove the old harness, I just cut this one away because it is mounted between the windshield and trunk frame.
You will not be able to get the new harness this way, not without removing the windshield. So this is a point of no return.
The connectors do not have room for passing thru so you have to cut them away.

The connector for the POT harness is located behind the trim panel on the left side of trunk.

When it comes to the button for closing the tailgate there is something you all should know. The button is the same button design used on Jaguar and LandRover.
But there is a difference between the symbols for opening the tailgate. In my opinion the Volvo button is wrong due to it displays a sedan model instead of a wagon.
So I choosed the LandRover one..

As you all noticed I cut away the old harness, you cant refit the new harness in the same position, You have to remove the windshield.
I figured out that the harness fits perfectly inside of the plastic trim with out inteference.

Re-mount all interior and check if the tailgate closes by doing this manually. let it be closed before you configure POT in VIDA.

Now, use a config tool for change the Car Config to Power Operated Tailgate.
Use VIDA to configure the control unit and re-learn the maximal opening angle.

DONE!

PS sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand
