Rare Jaguar XJ220-N Hits the Market

Posted on January 13, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Rare Jaguar XJ220-N Hits the Market

The Jaguar XJ220, a legendary supercar from the 1990s, originally began as an innovative concept at the 1988 British International Motor Show. The prototype featured a V12 engine and all-wheel drive, housed in a lightweight bonded aluminum honeycomb chassis. When it transitioned to production, the XJ220 kept the advanced chassis but featured a more compact design, a shorter wheelbase, and a rally-derived V6 engine inspired by the MG Metro 6R4 Group B rally car.

In 1993, Jaguar collaborated with Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) to develop two racing variants of the XJ220. The XJ220-C was built for racing, while the XJ220-S remained road-legal. Additionally, three XJ220s were modified to Group N specifications for private racing teams. These “N” variants participated in notable races, including the 1993 Italian GT series and the Global GT Endurance Series.

One of these variants, a 1993 XJ220-N, is currently available for sale on Bring A Trailer. As the third and final Group N-spec car built by TWR, it was originally commissioned by Top Run racing for the 1993 Campionato Italiano Supercar GT championship.

Unlike its counterparts, chassis 003 remained unused and was sold in 1994. This car, once a backup vehicle, is in pristine condition, with its original Spa Silver finish now covered by a vinyl wrap, applied in 2024. The wrap recreates the livery of the 1993 Italian GT cars, complete with sponsor logos and the number 13.

Despite being a race car, the XJ220-N retains several road-going features, such as a front air dam, a rear spoiler, and retractable headlights. Its multipiece BBS wheels are paired with Hoosier tires, and the braking system is equipped with Brembo disc brakes.

The car’s 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged JV6 engine, developed in partnership with TWR, produces around 700 horsepower, coupled with a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Inside, it boasts racing seats, a digital dashboard, and a roll cage.
