The Geely Radar King Kong EM-P plug-in hybrid has been launched in China, half a year on from the launch of the battery-electric Radar King Kong.
Pricing for the Radar King Kong EM-P in China starts from 139,800 yuan (RM82,413) and goes up to 159,800 yuan (RM94,114) across three variants, according to Car News China.
Exterior dimensions of the Radar King Kong EM-P match those of the BEV variant, measuring 5,260 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,865 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,120 mm. Like the BEV, the just-launched EM-P also has a long-wheelbase version which measures 5,500 mm in overall length with a 3,310 mm wheelbase.
Key to the Radar King Kong EM-P is the plug-in hybrid powertrain, which is comprised of a 1.5 litre turbocharged engine that is mated to a 3DHT dedicated hybrid transmission and two electric motors, combining for a total system output of 349 hp and 914 Nm of torque.
Energy for the electric side of its powertrain is is contained in a 19.09 kWh LFP battery pack that yields 100 km of EV range on the Chinese domestic CLTC test cycle, and in combination with its 60-litre fuel tank, enables the Radar King Kong EM-P to attain a combined range of 1,068 km. The PHEV pick-up truck is capable of a vehicle-to-load (V2L) supply of up to 3.3 kW, or up to 21 kW in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) mode.
Geely quotes two figures for the 0-100 km/h acceleration performance of the Radar King Kong EM-P; it does the benchmark sprint in 6.3 seconds, or 8.6 seconds with a full 1,000 kg payload. Likewise for fuel consumption, the PHEV pick-up truck does a claimed 1.5 l/100 km, or 6.4 l/100 km with its hybrid battery depleted.
The Radar King Kong EM-P is capable of climbing a 100% gradient, or 45 degrees without a payload, or up to a 65% gradient (33 degrees) with a full payload, says the company.
Being of a dual-cab configuration like its BEV twin, the Radar King Kong EM-P seats five in its cabin, and interior equipment includes a 10.2-inch instrument display and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. Here and as with the BEV version, the dashboard architecture is visibly similar to that of the Geely Haoyue and Proton X90.
The Radar King Kong EM-P is headed for export markets as the Riddara RD6 EM-P, according to Car News China. This could likely enter Thailand, as the battery-electric Riddara RD6 has gone on sale in the kingdom last year.
