As if consistently topping Malaysia’s EV sales monthly wasn’t enough, last month was the Proton eMas 7‘s best sales month ever since its December launch. The carmaker sold 916 units (including exports) of its first EV in May 2025, pushing its year-to-date (YTD) total to 3,632 units, including 233 units overseas.

April was previously the zero-emissions SUV’s best sales month (863 units), with Pro-Net then saying that one Malaysian bought an eMas 7 every hour – this amusing statistic should be fractionally better for May.

Pro-Net said in a release that the eMas 7 is Malaysia’s fastest-selling EV, and the Integrated Live Charging Map (both in-car and on the app) now has over 2,500 public charging locations, offering over 90% coverage nationwide. Also, 44 Proton eMas dealerships have been appointed, with 32 already operating, and six more 3S centres will open soon for 30 in total.

Proton has also announced that the eMas 7 will be introduced in Trinidad and Tobago next – as soon as this month. So far, Nepal is the car’s only export market (there was a preview in Singapore last month). Other possible markets are Mauritius and Brunei, though we have no indication of when yet.

In Malaysia, the eMas 7 is priced at RM109,800 for the base Prime and RM123,800 for the Premium; a RM4,000 discount for the first 6,000 buyers drops those figures to RM105,800 and RM119,800 respectively. Both variants have a 218 PS/320 Nm front-mounted electric motor and do 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The difference is in the Aegis short blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery‘s capacities – the Prime gets a 49.52 kWh pack with a WLTP-rated range of 345 km, while the Premium’s larger 60.22 kWh pack enables it to travel up to 410 km on a single charge.

And while on the subject of batteries – Geely recently ran a 36-tonne tank over the battery used in the Galaxy E5 – which is the eMas 7’s twin – to demonstrate its safety. More on that stunt here.
