The Proton eMas 7 is now in Trinidad and Tobago. The dual-island Caribbean nation is the second international market for the EV and this comes three months after its international debut in Nepal. Launched in Malaysia in December 2024, the eMas 7 is now Proton’s third most popular export model after the Saga and X50.

Proton’s local partner in T&T is Ansa Motors, which has been the brand’s official distributor since 2013. In conjunction with the eMas 7 launch, Ansa unveiled a new EV showroom at The City of Grand Bazaar. By the way, while the cars are CBU China units, exports models are shipped from Malaysia. Once CKD operations start in Tanjung Malim by the end of the year, the journey to T&T won’t be so long, although CKD packs will still come from China.

The eMas 7 isn’t Proton’s first SUV in T&T – the X50 and X90 were exported there last year. To-date, 481 units of Protons have landed in the country, which has a population of approximately 1.4 million. These include 271 units of the X50, 141 units of the seven-seater X90 and 44 units of the Saga.

“Proton’s journey with the eMas 7 into the Trinidadian market is a significant moment for the company. It strongly reflects our commitment to leading the adoption of EVs in the nation and marks another pivotal step in our international expansion. This also clearly demonstrates Proton’s dedication to leading the charge for EV adoption in our export portfolio and we can’t wait to roll it out to additional export markets such as Mauritius and Singapore later this year,” said Edmund Lim Meng Thong, director of Proton International Sales Division.

The eMas 7 for the T&T market is the Premium, which has a 60.22-kWh Geely Aegis short blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for a WLTP-rated range of 410 km. Powered by a 218 PS/320 Nm front-mounted electric motor, 0-100 km/h is done in 7.1 seconds. In Malaysia, there’s an entry Prime variant with a 49.52-kWh battery and 345 km range.

The eMas 7, which is leading the local EV sales table, is priced at RM109,800 for the Prime and RM123,800 for Premium. Full review in the video below.
