A rare chance to buy a private race track has come up, but the new owners would need to put in some elbow grease.
The opportunity to own your very own race track doesn’t come up often, but one property in Queensland is offering just that – along with a bonus house.
Mac’s Speedway is being offered for sale in Mackay – approximately 1000 kilometres north of Brisbane on the Coral Sea Coast – with the oval track available to purchase within the town’s motorsport district, boasting Mackay Kart Club and Kalmyra Dragway as neighbours.
Along with the 400-metre oval track, the 9.31-hectare property features infrastructure for the commercial operation of the speedway – including a bar – along with several large sheds and a home.

However, it does appear as if Mac’s Speedway would require some work to bring it back to its former glory.
While several race events have taken place in recent years, the venue was fined $60,000 after two spectators were injured when a dilapidated grandstand – earmarked for demolition – collapsed in 2016, according to Speedway Australia.
In 2020, then-25-year-old YouTube star Cleetus McFarland (real name Lawrence Garrett Mitchell) purchased the DeSoto Speedway in Florida – a facility closed for several years and overgrown with weeds.

McFarland renamed it the Freedom Factory, and – after resurrecting the site and holding several public events – has seen his YouTube channel grow from 1.8 million subscribers to almost 4 million.
While the DeSoto Speedway was purchased for $US2.2 million ($AU3.28 million) almost five years ago, Mac’s Speedway is a relative bargain at $AU1.15 million – though the sellers are willing to negotiate.
