With more than 700 hp and combined with wild aero like the 911 GT3 RS, the new GT2 RS should be a track monster

Porsche’s New Flagship Could Be Raging New 911 GT2 RS

  • A prototype of the new 911 GT2 RS was spied testing at the Nurburgring last year.
  • A recently leaked screenshot indicated the new GT2 RS could cost €450,000.
  • This new model will probably pump out well over 700 hp from its twin-turbo six-cylinder.

During Porsche’s recent annual conference, the carmaker made a series of revelations, including the fact that it’s pondering a new combustion-powered SUV. However, of more interest to car enthusiasts was Porsche’s commitment to “an additional flagship model” for the 911 family – which could very well be the new 911 GT2 RS.

Porsche built GT2 versions of the 993, 996, and 997 generations of 911, before reviving the model in 2017, and upping the ante by dubbing it the GT2 RS. The 992 generation has yet to receive a GT2 RS, but the pre-facelifted model did include special high-performance variants like the 911 Turbo and Turbo S, the GT3 and GT3 RS, Dakar, and 911 S/T.

In mid-2024, Porsche launched a facelift for the 992 generation model, and while it has updated standard Carrera models, alongside the GT3 and GT3 Touring, more extreme and powerful versions like the GT3 RS and Turbo/Turbo S have yet to be added to the range. When confirming the new “flagship” for the 911 range, Porsche said the car would “raise the bar even further” in the sports car segment, which is exactly what the 991-gen GT2 RS did.

Rumors have been swirling about a new GT2 RS for quite some time. In February, a screenshot from Mobile.de appeared online, showing a dealer selling a configuration for the 992 GT2 RS. While its authenticity can’t be verified, it lists the car with an MSRP of €450,000 (~$489,000), presumably including taxes, and indicates it’ll arrive in 2026.

Porsche’s New Flagship Could Be Raging New 911 GT2 RS

Last year, a prototype of what could be the new GT2 RS was spied on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. That car had the bodywork of the existing GT3 RS but was clearly not powered by that car’s regular 4.0-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder. Indeed, the more muffled soundtrack indicated it was turbocharged.

The old 911 GT2 RS churned out 690 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque from its 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder, but the supercar game has moved on a lot since 2017. Any new GT2 RS will probably produce in excess of 750 hp, easily making it the quickest 911 on the market.
