Porsche Taycan Turbo GT vs Mercedes-AMG GT XX

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT vs Mercedes-AMG GT XX

Posted on July 1, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Porsche Taycan Turbo GT vs Mercedes-AMG GT XX

Which is the best four-door electric 4-door coupe in the world: the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT or the Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept?

With the 2024 facelift, Porsche unveiled a top-tier version of the Taycan: the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which also comes in a track-oriented version called the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package. Both versions are equipped with a more powerful inverter compared to the rest of the range, delivering 580 kW (789 PS) and 1,240 Nm, or 760 kW (1,034 PS) with Launch Control, and even 815 kW (1,108 PS) for two seconds.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 2.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 290 kph. The Weissach version is even quicker, requiring just 2.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 305 kph. As for the Mercedes-AMG GT XX, its maximum power exceeds 1,000 kW (1,360 PS), and Mercedes-AMG promises a top speed of over 360 kph, although it has not yet revealed the 0–100 kph acceleration time.

Both cars use carbon fiber on a large scale

At 5.20 meters long, 1.95 meters wide, and only 1.31 meters tall, the Mercedes-AMG GT XX is 23 cm longer, 2 cm narrower, and 7 cm lower than the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which measures 4.97 m / 1.97 m / 1.38 m.

Mercedes hasn’t released any information about the weight of the AMG GT XX. However, Porsche states that the Taycan Turbo GT weighs 2,365 kg, which is 5 kg lighter than the Turbo S. The Weissach version is 70 and 75 kg lighter than the Turbo GT and Turbo S, respectively.

To achieve this, the Taycan Turbo GT uses carbon fiber on the B-pillars, mirror housings, and side skirt inlays. Additionally, the bucket seats are made of CFRP, and the electric tailgate mechanism has been removed. The Taycan Turbo GT also comes standard with the Dynamic Package, which includes lightweight 21-inch forged wheels, sport-tuned Active Ride suspension, and ceramic brakes as standard.

The Weissach version also removes the standard rear bench seat, replacing it with a custom, high-quality lightweight carbon cladding, offering a storage compartment behind the seat shells for the driver and front passenger.

Mercedes also makes extensive use of carbon fiber. The front and rear bucket seats are made from carbon fiber, with the rear seats integrated into the rear bulkhead.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has a 105 kWh battery (gross; 97 kWh net), but Mercedes has not disclosed battery capacity—only its chemistry. However, the AMG Vision concept featured a battery of around 100 kWh, which will likely be found in the production version of the AMG GT XX.

It’s hard to believe, however, that the Mercedes-AMG GT XX could be lighter, as it has a larger footprint and one extra motor. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT uses two motors, while the Mercedes-AMG GT XX uses three—two at the rear axle and one at the front. That said, Mercedes’ axial-flux Yasa motors may be lighter, as they are known for their compact design and low weight, with each motor weighing only 24 kg.

Mercedes-AMG has an almost three times bigger charging power

Where Mercedes clearly outperforms Porsche is in charging power. The Taycan Turbo GT charges from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes at a maximum charging power of 320 kW, whereas Mercedes promises charging up to 850 kW. Mercedes-AMG claims that only 5 minutes of charging is enough to add 400 km of range, though no WLTP range figures have been published yet. In contrast, Porsche claims a competitive WLTP range of 556 km, with an impressively low consumption of 20.6 kWh/100 km.

Mercedes hasn’t released consumption data but has announced a record-breaking drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.198, compared to 0.22 for the Taycan Turbo GT. Whether the production version of the Mercedes-AMG will retain this spectacular Cd remains to be seen. We’ll have to wait until mid-2026, when the production version of the Mercedes-AMG GT XX will debut on the market.

Until then, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package has already made history by lapping Laguna Seca in 1:27.87, making it the fastest production electric car in the world. Also, a pre-production Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package lapped the Nürburgring in 7:07.55, 26 seconds faster than the previous-generation Taycan Turbo S.
