Polestar 4 – the Car With no Rear Window – Starts at $57,800

People may someday speak of the 2026 Polestar 4 as a wild success — a sporty blend of coupe and SUV with a sophisticated Euro attitude, brisk all-electric acceleration, and a design that takes chances. Or they may speak of it as an oddball with no clear segment and no rear window built by a startup that might not make it.

The only thing certain is that they will talk about it.

Polestar announced this week that the 4 is already available for order. It will start at $57,800, with prices pushing into the low-$70,000 range fully equipped.

Let’s List All the Peculiarities

Polestar is an electric vehicle (EV) automaker headquartered in Sweden but owned by a Chinese company. It was once a division of Volvo and has since spun off, but maintains close enough ties that some Polestar cars come from Volvo-owned factories.

Polestar calls its fourth product an “SUV Coupe.” Many automakers — particularly European luxury brands — have taken to designing so-called SUV coupes. They have four doors and ride high like SUVs but have the low-slung, aerodynamic lines of sportier coupes. Think BMW X4 and Audi Q5 Sportback.

The Polestar 4 is perhaps the coupiest of them, sitting low enough to the ground to call the “SUV” part into question.

Its most unusual trait, though, is its rear window. It lacks one.

You see what’s behind you thanks to a roof-mounted camera. Polestar says it enables “a far wider field of view compared to what is found in most modern vehicles.” KBB’s Colin Ryan has driven it and says the effect works well, and means rear-seat passengers don’t show up in your mirror view.

The design is otherwise sleek, with a needle-nose profile (for a crossover, if you’re willing to stipulate that it counts as one) and hammerhead headlights.

Minimalist Cabin, Won’t Skimp on Power

Polestar cabins are all tasteful Swedish minimalism, accented by brilliant gold seatbelts. The Polestar 4 gets a 15.4-inch portrait-mounted touchscreen that handles most infotainment and comfort functions, Tesla-style.

A few steering wheel buttons keep you from tapping the screen for everything while driving.

The 4 will come in two power levels. A single-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version makes 272 horsepower and gets from zero to 60 mph in a respectable 6.9 seconds. Polestar claims a range of 300 miles between charging sessions. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) version gets 544 hp and makes the leap to highway speed in just 3.7 seconds. Range drops to 270 miles for that version.

Polestar says it is accepting orders now. While some Polestar vehicles are built in China, the 4 will come from South Korea.
