Again, Niall Ferguson is the Milbank Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, and a senior faculty fellow of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard. The British newspaper The Times has called him “the most brilliant British historian of his generation.”
In a post-election piece for The Free Press Ferguson wrote:
“This election was a crushing defeat for political lawfare, critical race theory, woke campuses, biological males in women’s sports, genital mutilation of teenagers, the Ivy League, the legacy media, and Hollywood. But it was also a defeat for the neoconservative Never Trumpers, including Liz Cheney as well as all the former Trump officials who turned their coats and backed Harris. And it was a victory for SpaceX, for Starlink, for Polymarket, for Bitcoin, for Anduril, for Palantir, for Marc Andreessen, for the new generation of builders whose autistic-virile qualities Musk exemplifies.
The possibility, therefore, now exists for an administration to approach our dysfunctional federal government in the same way Javier Milei approached Argentina’s since his election as president a year ago—with a chainsaw.”
Anyone care to offer any thoughts? I suspect that the majority of people who read my blog are happy at the outcome of the election. I know that some people, even friends, have stopped reading because of my stance on some issues, EVs in particular. I also know that posts like this that are heavily political are not read as much as those on other topics. At this point in the history of my blog, I really don’t care.
Of course, many powerful people are heavily vested in the status quo and will fight attempts to re-wire government. Of course, two years from now the composition of Congress could change. Of course, four years from now a President could be elected with an entirely different view.
That election schedule is why I think if Ferguson’s words are true, they might only be true for awhile. Well, these words might be true for longer, “And, of course, he crushed it in Iowa. (Sorry about that poll, J. Ann Selzer. You were 17 points off. Good luck with the next chapter in your career.)” Selzer published a poll not long before the election, widely reported in the mainstream media, that Harris was leading in Iowa.
What has been a pleasant surprise to me is that I have not read any reports of post-election violence. I do know that mayors and governors in many states were proactive in mobilizing resources and in publicizing such actions.
I don’t think I will write any more about the election, but since I am not a politician I am not going to promise.

Speaking of The Free Press it recently published a piece with a sub-head that read, “History proves that tyranny can be overthrown. With Hezbollah now weakened, the brave dissidents of our series ask: How can we push for real political change?” The series mentioned is called Hezbollah’s Hostages, “which debuted one day before pagers exploded in the hands of Hezbollah operatives across Lebanon and Syria—a stunning piece of Israeli spycraft. It concludes today with Hezbollah gravely weakened by Israeli air and ground strikes. The terror group’s longtime leader, Hassan Nasrallah, has been assassinated. Now, the most urgent question facing the Lebanese—and the world—is how to use Hezbollah’s weakened state to drive systemic political change.”
Also from the article, “Sadly, Western governments do little to assist brave dissidents, and Iran’s axis of terror wields lethal force against local activists who stand up to its authority.” The West is at war against Iran and Russia and China, but too many people–including many in power–don’t seem to realize it.

I have been watching this car for a long time on Autotrader and have even seen it in person. What can I say except timing is everything.
This is a 2021 Toyota Supra with about 35,000 miles offered at a local dealership. It is now priced $3,000 less (about 6 percent) than it was when first listed. Since it is local, no shipping costs would be incurred. I still can’t buy it.
We have just spent more than half the cost of this car on a partial re-model of the master bathroom and now will have to spend more to finish the re-model. The bathroom re-model was really sort of a last-minute idea; 6-8 weeks ago we were not planning this project. If the car had been available then at its current price, the probability of a purchase would have been much higher. There’s that word again, “If.” The only solace I can take is that it seems possible that such a deal might be available at some time in the near future when other conditions are more favorable for the purchase.

Since the “Pelated Rosts” feature still only shows posts from part of 2018 and very recent ones, here are some posts in which you might have interest. Please feel free to click on any or all of them.
Yes, I have linked to this post recently. Again, it is a brief history of “me” and explains, to some extent, why I feel the way I do about the world.
Too Much Spin, Not Enough Truth
Hey, I don’t have to limit my selection of “Pelated Rosts” to three like WordPress. Oh, I have used a spoonerism because if I write the actual phrase then those posts will appear in the middle of this one and not at the end.
