I originally purchased this from George Achorn, the guy who used to own this site years ago.
Over the last 14 years, this has been a fun and reliable vehicle for my family, however I now need something bigger to fit everyone more comfortably for road trips and and camping.
When I purchased it, George @ Swedespeed had already installed the H&R lowered suspension, stiffer sway bars and camber correction bushings in the rear, Heico Volution Wheels, aluminum interior trim and Dension Bluetooth adapter for the stereo.
Since purchase, the XC90 has been kept almost exclusively in the garage, unless I had to go to the office or we were on a trip. The paint and exterior and interior are both in excellent condition. You will be hard pressed to find a cleaner vehicle of any age.
List of options:
- Bi-Xenon headlights
- All Season mats
- Heated Seats
- Tow hitch/wiring harness
- Premium Audio, 6 Disk Changer, Bluetooth, NAV
- Rain Sensing Wipers
- Sunroof
- Home Link (garage door opener buttons)
I’ve done most maintenance myself, and things I didn’t want to do were done by a Volvo specialty shop. I’ve been proactive on a lot of things. If I felt like something was worn or would be an issue soon, I proactively replaced it.
Within the last 5 years, I’ve done or had done:
- Timing Belt, Water Pump, Oil Pump, Oil Seals, Power Steering Pump, Alternator, Tensioners and Idler. This was in 2018, at around 130k, with receipt and stickers.
- Brakes:
- StopTech Cryo treated drilled rotors
- Rebuilt the calipers with new seals, guides, clips and epoxy paint.
- The brake fluid was flushed and replaced with synthetic DOT4 fluid.
- New parking brake pads and related hardware.
- Stainless braided brake hoses
- EBC Yellow Stuff pads within the last 1000 miles
- Other Stuff:
- New Bilstein shocks, all 4 corners
- New front LCAs with upper and lower ball joints
- Strut bearings
- Front and rear end links
- Bump stops
- Spring seats
- Fuel pump
- Headliner and A-Pillar covers
- New sunroof drain
- Flush and fill of the rear diff fluid and angle gear, with Volvo recommended oils.
- New Haldex pump at the same time
- 6 new Volvo platinum tip plugs
- 6 new coil packs
- New Driver and Passenger CV joints
- New Driver and Passenger front wheel bearings
- Transmission flush/fill with Transgo shift kit on 1st and 2nd gears
- IPD Shock tower braces
I’ve got a pile of other parts and stuff that comes with the Volvo:
- Nearly new Bridgestone Blizzak tires on the factory “snowflake” wheels
- Comes with tire covers from Tire Rack
- Also a wall mount tire rack from Tire Rack
- Specialty tools:
- VIDA DICE – you will need to get your own software though
- Serpentine tool
- Oil Funnel – attaches where oil fill cap goes
- Oil Filter cup – cast aluminum, really nice…
- Other parts:
- I think I have another oil filter or 2
- Volvo oils for angle gear and Haldex
- Factory ride height springs
- Factory shocks – rear self – leveling Nivomat shocks, fronts
- Passenger inner and outer tie rods and boot.
As with any vehicle that’s 20 years old, it does need a few things that I haven’t gotten around to:
- Front seat bottom covers need to be restitched
- Headlights could use another cleaning and polishing
- Factory stereo acts up sometimes, the volume acts weird. Looking at the Legendary setup and adding front/rear cameras.
Oh, it just passed a Virginia safety inspection last week. If you aren’t from VA, here’s what all that covers.
