Hi all – I have so enjoyed reading all of your trip reports, and benefitted so much from your tips – that I thought I would add my own from our mid-April trip to pick up my 23 XC60 T8 Recharge. We placed the order in October with Steingold (really excellent to work with – as a teacher, I have very specific possible travel dates and Mike helped plot out allocation and order timing to align with that trip), and AdTrav reached out very quickly after contract was signed. They were also great to work with (Therese). I suggested some flights I’d found on BA, and asked out of curiousity what it would cost for us both to go business, and it was shockingly reasonable on top of Volvo’s contribution on the exact flights we wanted, so we went for it! Dream trip!! Also coordinated our dates at the Clarion Post at this time – we decided to take one night at the beginning and one night at the end of our trip, and added a night at the end on our own dime; this was all seamlessly arranged.
Volvo reached out a week or so before the trip to coordinate pickups etc. When we arrived at GOT, we were swiftly whisked to the Post and were able to check in despite it being only around noon. We were very happy with our room! We also LOVED the rooftop pool – so nice after the long flight! Just reserve through the front desk, and Volvo covers the cost! Dinner at Norda was Fine. We were beat and slept great!
We picked up the car the following morning – an awesome intro to the car, which even after reading exhaustively still showed me some new features and how-tos. We had some time before lunch, so we drove off on our inaugural voyage to the Volvo museum. A nice way to spend an hour or two, and a great gift shop! Back to the delivery center (more of a dealership, actually, I think) for an okay lunch followed by awesome factory tour.
We borrowed a portable WiFi from Volvo (a very good idea!), input our new Swedish license plate into EPASS24 for tolls, and drove off to Norway! We spent a week driving all around the fjords, which were incredible. I could not recommend our itinerary more, especially for ~late March-October, and would be happy to elaborate if anyone is wondering what to do for their week (not that there’s any lack of options!). We came back to the Post 7 days later, used the (Volvo-paid) valet parking for a night, then got ‘er all washed up at the Tanka in Torslanda (what a system!) and said goodbye on Friday afternoon 4/21. We were quoted “by 6/21” pickup at dealer, and the AirTag I left in the area under the cargo mat shows that it has just been offloaded in Newark! So now, Customs and a wait for trucking to Steingold. Hopefully not too much longer now!!! In planning, this was a “once in a lifetime” trip, but man, I am already planning my next one in, oh, hopefully 10 years’ time!!
